I want to keep it longish but she looks like no one loves her enough to groom her. Any suggestions? Oh, I am going to do it - if I have the guts.

I could be there in about 5 days if I drove 12 hours a day. We live in NJ.
If I could only learn to cut her hair with the razor the way mine gets cut.
I want her hair only a little shorter.
I would just trim the tips of her coat with thinning shears. To use thinning shears it is a bit like chewing the coat. You have to cut many times in the same area to make the coat shorter, but they do not leave a straight line which is the whole idea.
you have a suggestion as to which shears I should I purchase. Do you also have a prayer I can say to Groomer Gods that I don't mess up this gorgeous face?

Here is a picture of my f1 with a trimmed face. Brush muzzle hair towards the eyes and trim off the parts that would stick in the eyes while saying 'OGGG [oh great groomer god] give me wisdom and skill'. lol
I love what the way the GGG did!! Would you read the picture but before you hit 'save'
click on options
click on the 'create thumbnail' so the picture will be square so I can really look up close and personal and see the length and the shape?
then save

What steps to you do to acieve the fantastic shape on the top of her head?
I am beginning the think I may be able to do this!!!!

OMG!! That is Samantha blonde!
How did you get the top of her head like that! That is exactly what I picture. If I cut too much off, her copper highlights are gone and the base of that hair is parchment. I want both! I Am a Doodle Pig, aren't I? I want it all
She looks VERY cute!! I would not shear or cut her hair at all. I like the doodles with long hair. My opinoin, keep her hair just as it is...sassy and doodle-ish!
I don't want to cut her body at all unless come spring/summer, it starts to mat due to the beach swimming I plan on doing. I love her shaggy look! It is the top of her head that looks ratty most of the time. I twists into little dreds.
I heard through DK that there is a groomer here in NJ that doesnt shear, she uses scissors to trim and is able to keep the long, shaggy look. It would probably cost me an arm and a leg, but if Samantha starts to mat I may do that once a year. So what if we don't eat for a week? I love my Doodle!!!
Hi Adrianne:

I really enjoy grooming Koji - because he is so good when groomed. Hair grows. Be brave - use a good pair of scissors - and go for it. Koji's hair is curlier - it grows more like a poodle. My Tibetan has long THICK straight hair. I comb the top of her crown hair forward, cut straight across, then I brush it back and scissor in where needed. It grows so fast - and you'll learn even faster. I really recommend good, sharp scissors. My tibetan, Dahlai, does NOT like being groomed. It is an event.
good luck -
Now I know what I'm doing wrong!!! I've never prayed to OGGG !!!!! LOL !!!!

I'll try tomorrow when I pick up those scissors. I need to work on the muzzle -- it's gone WILD over the winter and sticks out everywhere !!!! Does shorter work better ? or possibly thin-ing shears? Jazz's really isn't THICK, but is IS WILD lookin.

OGGGG..... OGGGG.....
It took me all this time to get up the chutzpa to take a scissor to the top of Samantha's head. I parted her hair on each side using her side of her eyes as the 'line', combed it up, and trimmed (just like my hairdresser does on me) and chanted OGGG please don't let me screw this up. I took off all of a half of inch but it does look better. Now I just need to get the courage up to trim the back of her neck. It is so much longer than the rest of her. It will probably take me another month to do.
Okay I can do it I can do it. Between the parting of the hair and trimming like I trim my bangs and the OGGG mantra, I am ready to try and take on Roo and Tigger's hair on the top of their heads. They look darling, but I am sure they would like to see out. Thanks for the great tips
