Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

I am wondering if anyone can tell me when an adult coat should be in a F1b mini  Labradoodle?

My Yogi has curly spiral fleece and still mats at 1 1/2 years of age.  Not as bad but in some sections it is worse.  I think having curlier hair in some areas makes it worse.  Any help, guidance, pearls of wisdom would be most helpful.

Puppy coats take about 6 to 8 months to strip out by combing if you keep at them. Longer if you have more time between groomings or if you have done a shave down instead of dematting.  It takes longer to strip it out of some areas like the chest because they are harder to brush and comb really well. Other areas may be problem areas because of the type and texture of the coat.

Coats continue to change until about the age of 2 though, I have heard?

Luna's coat is constantly changing colours - she's only 1 so we don't know what her final colour will be.  I've heard that the ears are a good indicator, but those keep changing colours too!

Really? I didn't know that. Does this mean I might wake up one morning and my black dog will be all white, like his mom? Help, someone kidnapped my dog and left me theirs.

It takes time, but a lot of black dogs do land up greying over time.  Poodles tend to lighten over time, so poodle mixes are likely to do the same.

There are a lot of people who frequent this site whose dogs started out apricot and matured white.

I sure hope the coat change will end when he is around 2 yrs. of age.  Thank you for your input.
Thank you very much for the info.
