Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

We get the best compliments on Harley, our 5-month old Double Doodle.  They always say he looks like a Teddy Bear and makes my kids giddy and proud.  Then I get the question, what is he?  Then people either just smile (like, "What the heck is that?") and just act nice, or they ask more questions because they are so confused.  Sometimes I just say, "He's a doodle." Then they are content with my answer.  I wonder what comments you guys get?

We have that issue with Truman. We get a very similar response when people see him and they of course want to know what he is. I say he's a Golden Labradoodle and they usually look at me funny and then I explain his mom was a GoldenDoodle (gold retr. poodle mix) and his dad was a Labradoodle (labrador / poodle mix) and then they understand. It does take quite a bit of explanation though. When I'm lazy, I say he's a double-doodle and leave it at that. ;-)

if someone asks in passing, my answer is labradoodle, since lilly is black.

but if it seems they are really interested, then i explain that she is labradoodle and goldendoodle, thus double doodle.

which always makes me smile, i've been calling my 19 yr old daughter "doodle" for as long as i can remember.

I had to laugh when I read your title because ABSOLUTELY, we have a problem with everyone that asks. Our NAR has a straight coat so everyone assumes she is a Lab but she does have some shagginess that makes her look like a Golden but NO WAY does she look like she has any poodle in her. I have learned that when I say double doodle, 99.9% of people never heard of that and look at me like i am crazy. When I say she is a doodle with no curl like a poodle that usually gets them to understand. And sometimes I just let them believe she is a lab. It is exhausting. LOL

If I'm talking to someone familiar with doodles, I'll explain the mix.  To anyone else, I just say "doodle" & many are confused even by that.  I started out with the whole explanation, but the blank stares made me decide it was more than the non-doodle person wanted to hear :)

I GET THIS ALL THE TIME!!! I am now to the point that I just say to someone I do not know that Lacey is a goldendoodle. I no longer bother explaining that she is a double doodle it just confuses people since it is a breed that not to many people have heard of yet.

I just saw this group tonight and decided to join in the discussion since Chloe is a double doodle, who just  turned two. When I first got her, I told people she was a  double doodle and then had to explain. Now people ask if she is a labradoodle and I say yes. If they want more information about her or the breed I will  then tell them she is a double doodle. The breeder I got  Chloe from also calls them "ultimate doodles". I recently learned that they are called North American retrievers also.

I love this thread.  I've only had my Double-Doodle for a few weeks, but I get this question all day as I'm housebreaking my puppy on the busy streets of Manhattan.  I just feel silly saying Double-Doodle!  Sometimes I just say labradoodle (since she isn't golden in color)....I know-I'm the worst breed ambassador.
