Over the last couple of weeks every once in awhile Shayna would limp slightly. The first time we gave her aspirins and it seemed to help. The vet said if it returned to bring her in. Sharon brought Shayna in today and the diagnosis is Anaplasmosis. Treatment doxacyline for 30 days. It is a tick borne disease. Prognosis is excellent. If anyone has dealt with this please let me know.
BTW - Shayna does not like to take pills. No matter how they are disguised, she will eat around the pill and spit it out. Any suggestions?
Usually I have no problem pilling my dogs but when we do have a problem we use the old peanut butter around the pill. First, we put peanut butter on our fingers for them to lick, then we give a few small treats, then the peanut butter coated pill, and a few more treats and then more licking peanut butter off of our fingers. This is done quickly before they have a chance to really figure out that the pill is in the peanut butter.
