For Those of You Who Need To Laugh

This is a cross post from a Blog written by Laurie, Fudge, and Vern

She often writes about Vern~ who has some scarey issues.  She can find humor in some of these situations. Here is hoping we can too.

Sandy- too cute... perhaps an all wire cage like crate may make a difference. She will be able to see out more and may not feel so separated form your world. Tori really wasn't thrilled with the cargo type like this one and once we started using the cage type she was better Maybe that's why she calmed down because she could SEE your cat? Just a thought... Glad to hear things are coming along! She
s soooo cute!

Sandy, the picture of Hattie and your kitty is priceless!

Sandy, Oh my goodness, that is so precious!  Hang in there...hopefully she will come to see the crate as her "cave", and will enjoy her own space.  My dogs had separate crates...now they wouldn't think of being in a separate crate and wind up snuggling together in one.  There is no prodding...they just walk right in.

We have a Springer Spaniel that had major issues when we tried to crate him as a puppy - he now has obvious separation anxiety problems.  We did not recognize or deal with these issues when he was a puppy.  I do believe that there are dogs who just hate crates and it isn't worth forcing the issue.  I also believe, after reading dk so much, that many dogs resist being in the crate at first and there are games etc to play with them to help them get used to it and it is worth the effort.

Sandy, I agree with Karen, ask your breeder how they were confined.  I would NOT leave a puppy to their own devices in a full kitchen WITHOUT "testing" her first.  We had dogs that were so anxious they were able to tear the cabinets to get inside, tore EVERYTHING out and laid inside, of course AFTER making a huge mess of whatever the cabinet they got into.  Scratching and such as well may be an issue on your cabinets.  Just something to think about, if she is anxious and tearing the inside of the crate.  I would keep up the crate training and work really hard at that and focus soley on that.  I am by no means a professional here, just life experience.

My breeder crate trained my last puppy. Perhaps you could ask your breeder in what manner the puppies were confined at her home.

I should not be amazed, but I am. No matter what the topic is, Karen has a wealth of knowledge in food!!!

I agree with Karen completely and this is my field in people. I would recommend working on these issues behavioral but should that fail I would recommend thinking about medication, which can be quite helpful.

Thanks Karen & Jack, I'll stick to the 25% Taste of the Wild for now.

See no reason to change.  It's is hard to sort out all the info. we receive.

But for now we will take your advise and not worry about it.
