Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

Hi everyone! I'm new to this group and have a question for y'all. I have a 15 month old male goldendoodle who is totally sweet and non-aggressive around other dogs. We want to get him a dood sibling, but prefer not to go through the puppy madness again:) We are looking to adopt another doodle that is his age or older and are currently looking at another male goldendoodle that is 16 months old. Just wanted to see if anyone out there brought a second non-puppy doodle into the household and how it went. Also, have you found that there is any truth to it being better to have a male and a female as opposed to 2 male dogs? Thank you!!

We had a 1.5 year old male border collie when we got our male doodle puppy. So, we have two male dogs and they get along great! Though, there is a lot of wrestling in the house, if you're up for that! They're now 2.5 & 1 and have had no problems.

Hi Nicole and Teddy,

Last year, we lost our beloved 9-year-old male goldendoodle.  We had purchased him from a breeder as a puppy.  He joined an older male black lab at that time, and they got along just great (i.e., no issues at all with having two males). When he was about 6 years old, we adopted an 18-month-old male labradoodle.  Those two go along just great also.  Then, when he passed last year, a month later, we adopted a 3-year-old male goldendoodle to join our now 4-year-old labradoodle. These two get along just fine, just like all the others.  So, if you should decide to go that route, I doubt seriously you'll have any issues.  Hope that helps!

Mike

P.S. In the photo below, the blonde is the labradoodle, and the other is the goldendoodle.

We got our Oliver at 10 months old. Our first Goldendoodle Ellie was just two years old. It worked out Great! Our vet recommended a male since we already had a female, but said a male/male pair should work also. She just didn't recommend two females, although I'm sure there are exceptions to every rule....Lol....Good Luck! LOVE HAVING TWO❤️

Aw what an adorably sweet picture of you kids.

Oh my goodness- the pictures are precious- thanks so much! Thanks for the encouragement too- I know it would be great for Teddy and so much fun, but there's this small part of me that doesn't want to 'share' him- is that totally weird!?:)

Loki and Moose are almost exactly a year apart, Loki is 15months and Moose is 3months. They play great together after a little bit of an adjustment period. I got two boys just because I always had female dogs growing up so I wanted to try something different, no really thoughts behind it :)
Here they are :)

So cute!!

We inherited Skadi at 10 weeks, she turned 5 years this past July.  I decided to take on another doodle in January this year. We are Elli's 3rd home.  She will be 7 years next month.  Don't let the picture fool you(HA)  they are both girls...thank goodness Elli is sweet natured, and mostly submissive...2 fights in the first week...none since...almost a year.  They are learning to "love" one another.  Have fun with your new addition.

Cute photo Joani!  I have heard if you have an alpha female, it is best not to get another female, but it appears that is not the case with yours.  I have a friend with Wheatons, one they had from a puppy, the other came four years later as a rescue and she was 2.  They kept her for a year and a half, and finally had to rehome her.  The two could not get along, and my friend is an experienced horse and dog trainer.  They were sad, but the Wheaton has an excellent forever home with a retired single couple now.

Aw...that would be sad taking in another pooch and then having them stressing each other.  I have heard 2 females would be harder than getting a male.  However, I am so very partial to girls, I wouldn't have it any other way.  So the doggie gods were smilin' down on us when Elli came into our lives...not without issues mind you, but she is so easy going that even Skadi decided she could stay.
