Choosing a breeder advice!

Hopefully this is allowed.  I apologise if it is against board rules.  I am looking to buy my first golden/doodle and I am having a really hard time finding a breeder.  None of the websites seem to be very good and the few that looked good and legit, when I did some digging I found a review on a blog or what not saying they were actually a puppy mill.  

So my questions is....

How did you guys choose?

Do you have any recommendations(GA,Florida, SC Recs)?

Is it better to find one within a drive or is it cruel to make a baby go on the plane?

How important is it that the breeder be a member of Golden doodles organisation?

Yes that is what I am most scared of doing.  I would HATE to pay soooo much money for a dog that is not well bred.

I highly recommend Smeraglia Teddy Bear Goldendoodles in Alabama. They are by far the best breeder I have ever worked with. A well run group with great breeding knowledge and breeds dogs with wonderful temperaments and by far the best personalities. They are also the cutest too. They also breed schnoodles too! Check them out online!
