Our 11 week puppy has been with us for 3.5 days.  We are crate training, and have an expen.  Until today she had been doing extremely well, only having 2 accidents.  Today is a different story.  She has gone to the bathroom 5 times in the house, urine and feces.  She is taken out every 20-30 minutes, before play, after play etc. etc. (she is not our first puppy)so nothing has changed there.  Tonight after being taken out and urinating, she came inside and urinated immediately.

In other behaviors, she is feeling her oats today as well.  We have her with  us in the family room where her expen is.  We have the room barricaded and she was content to stay with us, playing on the rug but now tries every means to escape into another room.  We finally had to put a leash on her so she could not stray any further.

We were able to take her in the front yard where she would do her business immediately, and we praised her.  Today she ignored our get busy command, and ran around, so we went back to the leash outside as well.

Has anyone else had the experience of their potty training going  backwards like this?  She was throughly checked out at the vet yesterday, so I know there is no physical reason.

I actually think this must be common. I've seen several discussions on this both this site and others. And low and behold now its happening to me too. I've had Goldie for over a month and she only had a total of 4 accidents in the house over that month but yesterday alone she peed in the house 4 times.
I don't think it's anything to be worried about. I think they are just testing us. Just stay persistent.
Thank you for that. Today we are having blizzard conditions again, but I'm taking her out every 30 minutes to get back on track.

We are training our 14 week old puppy and it can sure be frustrating.  One day is goes every time I take him out and then sometimes he just wants to mess around.  I still keep him teethered to the leash as he is still so undependable and I want to see where he is so we have no surprises.  Be patient, it is a work in progress.  It will happen just continue to be consistant.  Good luck!!

I think we all have experienced potty training going backward. Its usually 2 steps forward, 1 step back, and occasionally, 1 step forward, 2 steps back. Your puppy has only been with you such a short time. She needs a lot longer to get the hang of what's expected of her. It may happen in a week, it may happen in a couple months (my guess is she'll get it sooner rather than later). My Lucy potty trained in 1-1/2 weeks. There were occasional accidents, but she understood the concept fast. Oscar, our latest, took what seemed like forever (closer to 16 weeks old). He'd do well for a couple weeks and then out of the blue he'd have a couple pee accidents in the house, or a poo. It was so frustrating! Up until 2 days ago, he'd gone almost 2 months accident free, when suddenly, he ran to the potty door and took a squat on the throw rug! He's been with us over 3 months now. So, give it time, be consistent, and watch that puppy like a hawk (tethering her to you when she's out of her crate is the best way to avoid accidents). You'll get there. Good luck!
