harness vs collar

Do I start with a collar or harness, and  how soon? She will be 8 weeks when I pick her up.

Cally came home with a wonderful collar from my breeder but it was evident after a month she was a puller so I bought an easy walk harness. I say start with a collar and more so because you are in and out so often with a puppy that a harness can get to be a hassle and it will be hard to size that small of a puppy and have it for properly. Cally is almost six months old and still fits in a small/medium harness!

We started with the Easy Walk harness right away. No reason not to. Makes walks more enjoyanle for both of you.

Agree - we did the same.  Big fan of the easy walk harness.  We have a collar as well to hold her tags, but we never use it with the leash.  Zoe is almost 9 months (practically full grown at this point) and we still use the easy walk - it just makes for a calmer, non-pulling walk.

Start with a collar, as soon as your baby is home. You will want to start leash training pronto. At this young age, training means getting him/ her use to the idea of the leash,
The harness is a good idea, as it means no pressure around the neck. You may or maynot ever need a easy walk harness. If you do...they are wonderful, but it is not a replacement for training.

We used the collar right away, but started using the harness at about 11 weeks.

The way we do it, the collar is for going out in the yard to potty, we usually just leave it on.

But we if we are going for a walk or a "road trip", we put on the harness.  That way it is kind of a

sign to Yogi that it is sometthing different than potty time, and we also use the harness to hook

him into the seatbelt for car rides.

This is what I did and it worked wonderfully! Also I think it was Ro who I got the idea from to put an ID tag on her Harness as well just in case!

We still do this....Enzo wears her harness " in public ", unless of course, it's the dog park. LOL...yes, she has her Ca DL ID and Ferrari tags on her harness.
