We will be getting our pick of the litter in a few months. We are so excited! I Know all the breeders say that there isn't a huge difference between male and female puppies once they are fixed. But, is there? Just curious to hear some personal views on this topic and what you would suggest. Obviously a lot more goes into a pick than just the gender, I just want to know as much as I can in advance. Thank you!

Don't be too concerned, Jody, with the traits of male or female. You can't generalize anyway. It's even less fair than generalizing with breeds. But the bottom line is that love is love, and your heart can't go wrong. Enjoy choosing the right puppy with your heart.
My heart has been owned by both. It is the bonding with the dog, not the sex of the dog. It's like saying a son is better than a daughter.
For years, I raised and bred Golden Retriever. Can't tell you how many people put in their " order" for a red male and would leave with a blonde female. Go...sit with a litter, and let that help you determine who your new furkid will be.
With Enzo....she picked me. I sat down within the litter and she was in my face, in my lap,all over me...barely giving me the chance to even look at her littermates. In the end...it was the best choice, for both of us!
All of this: females are more.........and males are more......( fill in the blanks) is so not true., proven and shown by all of the responses....everyone has a different answer! Because they are all different! It is the individual dog that makes up the personality traits, not the sex of the dog.
Thank you so much for all the wonderful responses! I know in my heart that we will choose the perfect puppy for our family. During the waiting period it is so easy to focus on every detail hoping to make the best choice. I will keep you all updated with cute puppy pictures :)

I have two females (almost 2 yrs and 7 months) and wow do they go at it!!!  I am aware that males can be dominate too, but it appears that females tend to rule the roost, they both want to be the Alpha and will not back down, they get along very well, but when they want to play, their play is pretty rough because neither of them will back down, in fact the baby takes a beating from my older one and literally goes right back at her, but when their done their done and they calm down and will lay down right beside eachother.  They both will also steal toys and treats away from each other, that actually makes me laugh to watch, but it's always a challenge with them, I think I would go for a one male and one female if I did it all over again.

Denise, Don't assume you made the wrong choice based on sex. There are a multitude of factors. I've always had females in multiple and have never seen dominance issues. Yarrow and Shiloh are sisters from the same litter... that's 'supposed to be' the worst possible combination of having two females in the household. They ADORE each other and take turns sharing everything.. even BONES! Before you blame it on the sexes, get pro advice from a trainer with really good credentials. Don't jump to an unproven conclusion. Keep an open mind and think positive.

I think my older one may have jealously issues too, she was abandoned by her family at 10 months and we rescued her and maybe had her for 9 months and then got the baby (hoping to give her company during the day when we are at work) she accepted her fine, but when their playing they both get so overly excited to the extend where it is over the top, no backing down on either side, their both very stubborn, but when they are not in play mode they lay by each other and Daisy, the almost 2 yr old, will lick her head. Daisy is spayed but Sophie has not yet been spayed (which will be very soon) maybe that's an issue?

That could well be a factor. I have to go out now but later I'll sare with you my Bernedoodle rescue story (also at 10 months) and the introduction many years back of a 9 month old doberwoman to a 5 year old basset hound princess.
