Hi fellow doodle owners,
in the past week..emma has been really good of not waking me up in the morning at 7am to let her out to pee. because of this..she has been getting late breakfast at various hours from 830am to 10am. her lunch and dinner meals are still same.

is this ok to have her eat at various time in the morning? ive heard various comments on how dogs stick to routines

would it be the heat that is why she doesnt get up early anymore?

or is it that she can hold her bladder longer now? she's 5 months and a week.

and if this is a problem for me giving her meals at various hours...then should i set an alarm on my clock to wake up at a certain time everyday?

thanks

At the beginning, training a puppy thru' scheduling, I feel is a MUST - If you are a scheduled -type person/family, I think sticking to a schedule is best, but unfortunately, we're not, and so she adjusts just like my kids did...Tori eats at all different times... actually when SHE is ready. From the beginning she was not really on a set schedule. BUT... we did not feed her after 7 at night and picked up her water by 8. She slept until we woke at 7. When she was a puppy, we gave her kibble so I could leave it down longer. Now she eats mostly canned. I put it down and if she doesn't go over to it within 15 minutes I put it away, She has really gotten to the point where she will bark if she's hungry and food is not there for her.... - on the weekends everything is later.. waking, pottying, eating all meals, and bedtime... just like the rest of us!
How old is Emma?
I don't know, but if my dogs slept past 7am I know that I sure wouldn't be setting my alarm clock to get up. That sounds like heaven to me. Murph used to get up at 5:30, and now he can make it until about 6:45, and I think that's late. If he ever makes it until 8:00, I will be doing the happy dance. I think as long as he's getting the required amount of food daily, and isn't waking you, I wouldn't be worried....life is good.
Oh, I just saw I missed Emma's age in your post. At 5 months old, she is starting to hold her urine longer and longer, especially while asleep. You'll find as she matures more in the next few months that will draw out even more. Lucy is 9 months old (next week), and pees maybe 3x a day now. Sometimes she doesn't even go in the morning and can hold it till noon.

As for Emma's eating schedule, don't worry too much about the various morning feeding times.

Emma's a doll, bty.
We put Buddy to bed around 10:30 - sometimes later depending on Hubby's schedule. We try to be up at 8am. Buddy can hold it for that long and he is one week shy of 8 months. I remember that first morning when he held it until 8am! I was so thrilled! Sometimes we get up a little later like 8:30 and he is ok. We have been taking morning walks and the other day we went out at 7:45 and didn't feed him until we got back about 8:50. He seemed fine. (we usually feed at 8am or right when we get up)
We tried to feed Max at the same time when he was super little, but it never seemed to work out exactly right. I wouldn't stress abuut it especially because he is 5 months old now. Max (8 months now) could probably hold it all day. He likes to eat first thing in the morning and sometimes I have to physically walk outside with him (We have a fenced in yard and he goes out on his own) to get him to use the bathroom. I definately wouldn't set your alarm... :)
i'm so glad im not hte only one thrilled to be able to sleep in longer now . i dont need to wake up at 7am to bring her out to pee.
yeah i was thinking maybe because she's getting older and that is why. I heard also that females can hold longer than males. I didnt know if she holds for long hours would get an UTI.

in the past , i would bring her to the crate close to 11pm. But now, it's the summer..we sleep late and she likes to be near us ..so i just let her nap for a bit. if it is getting too late of a night, i bring her to hte crate for her to sleep

when the end of august hits, i have school and so i will be waking up early. so i will be feeding and letting her out to pee earlier. would she be able to adjust fine by then ?

thanks guys !.
We went on a 10 day vacation and Buddy stayed at my mom's house. She knew when we took him out a fed him (8-8:30am), but I told her that if she wanted to go to bed a little earlier she could as long as she adjusted his morning out time. She gets up super early like 6am, but kept buddy in his crate until 7-7:30am. He knew she was up but he also knew that it wasn't time for him to get up yet. He did not fuss or anything. So you could always keep him in the crate to keep him on the normal schedule or adjust times like you mentioned and I think he would be just fine.
