I had Gracie on a self waterer and she seemed to be a little too obsessive about getting drinks of water from it. I did switch her to just a bowl. From what I've read some pups do not have a water shut-off valve just like there are some who do not have a food switch. Anyway, if she is out of water and needs/wants more she will sit by her bowl and I give her just enough to satisfy her thirst. She is older now (5 months), so eventually I'm thinking of reintroducing the self waterer.
The other thing since your dog is only peeing small amounts, it could be a uti. Can you spot any blood or very dark urine? Or is it just clear? The more she drinks the clearer it is going to be. When Gracie was drinking in excess, she initially had yellow urine (like early in the morning), but then as the day went on and the more she drank it would be almost clear. At that time there was snow on the ground, so I could see the color changes.
The other thing is is that her bladder probably isn't holding much so of course she is going to need to go out more the more she drinks. The only way you will know for sure if it is a uti is to get her checked by the vet.
