Purina is a big no no. Check out the discussion Karen put together (this was right after she helped me get my pup off Purina). Also be sure to check out the recommended foods list in the Food Group. I feed Blue Buffalo Basics Turkey and Potato (grain free).

Well, shoot I can't find the discussion about why Purina is so bad but it's a really good one.
I'm sure Karen will chime in soon and school you provide you with great information. Purina is basically bottom of the barrel and definitely not recommended.
You're certainly on the right site to help you transition the food but you'll want to go dig around in the Food Group for the best info :)
Stay away from Purina and Science Diet, pick a food from the recommended list.
Our breeder uses Purina "Red" puppy food so we bought a bag of that and will probably slowly switch him over to something grain-free. I need to read at that other group to find all the info and such.
I just picked up my "Bentley" today. Breeder also used puppy chow (blue bag) and when I fed it to him tonight, he threw it all back up in multiple times. He didn't scarf it down really fast, in fact just nibbled at it. So, I called the breeder to make sure I was right and she said yes. To be honest, I was surprised that a breeder who is an accredited breeder would feed such a low quality food. I have already purchased Orijen puppy food and was going to gradually begin the switch in a couple of weeks. I am hoping that he just had a long adventure coming home as he was in the car for over 4 hours. Any thoughts on what I should do now will be greatly welcomed and appreciated.
Purina is like the lowest of the lowest quality dog food, and I know its too late now in your case, but I would steer clear of any breeder feeding that quality of food to their breeders and puppies. Makes you wonder what other corners are they cutting at the expense of the dogs. They certainly don't have the dogs' best interest in mind. Also, I never take the vet up on a food recommendation, even a prescription food. They aren't schooled in animal nutrition and really have no idea of what's good for your dog. Also, the food they sell is very low quality. For special diets I make my own (for example, for vomiting and diarrhea, I make plain rice, boiled chicken and mashed sweet potato - with a little low sodium chicken broth). The vet always tries to sell me their in-house brand (Science Diet) prescription diets. I politely decline, telling him I'll make my own. If the vomiting continues I'd be getting the puppy to a vet asap.
My puppy loves Orijen puppy food. She would chow down the Orijen food very fast compare to other dog food.
