So I finally got home after the longest 45 minutes of my life. It's quite windy here in NYC. Looks like we're due for a thunderstorm of some sort. Anyway windy means lots of garbage and leaves blowing around and lots of noises with the trees rustling and garbage can covers blowing on the ground. Needless to say, My 5 month old mini LD Duncan (who's also got extra energy now that he got a shaved down haircut) went berserk. All I saw with this jumping bean at the end of the leash. Pouncing on leaves, trying to eat newspapers and napkins. Oh lord. Nothing I could do would get him to walk nicely. At one point I just started running with him. It was like we were both "mushers" pulling an imaginary sled. He is now passed out so at least he got some exercise. It just wasn't the loose leash training session i had hoped for. Just wanted to share.

LOL! That's great! I live with Gracie but she is also commonly known as Godzilla or Taz. Life is always grand when you are a doodle!
We have ALL been there. Garbage days are the worst. And birds - Toby still feels like every bird needs to be checked out, and maybe chased. He wrenched my shoulder big time about 3 weeks ago, and I can still feel it. He's getting better all the time, but I definitely know what you're talking about.
Oh yeah..Lucca chases every leaf or petal or anything else that moves on those windy days!!
on a general note...have you tried the "easy Walker" harness. It's a front harness and I gotta tell you walking is ALOT easier, even on windy days!!!!
I bought one last week but had a hard time finding the right fit for him....of course that was pre-haircut and he was quite fluffy. He also wasn't fond of it and tried chewing the front of it. He tries to chew his leash alot too so i guess i could have tried the bitter apple on it. We're going to our 2nd puppy obedience class tomorrow and the trainer said she had a few ideas for me regarding that harness. She wanted me to give it a shot for week 1 with the traditional loose leash "lure" method. He was much better this afternoon when we walked in the park. Of course the wind had died down. HA!
I thought your little story was very entertaining.
Ugh, I know all to well what that is like. My 6 month old mini GD does the same thing. Literally, I sometimes find myself dragging him down the street. My trainer told me too tightly tie his leash to a fence and walk away. That way he will understand that you wont tolerate that behavior. I have tried this, but like you live in a busy city so I get nervous. I hear they grow out of it, I just hope for my sanity it is sooner then later!
That is too funny. Angel would definitely do the same thing. She loves to chase bugs. Even imaginary ones.
