I was giving my 4 month old golden doodle pup cow ears but I've now decided not to give that to him anymore since he has started throwing them up. I want a chew to keep him occupied and also one that will be a good dental chew. I have heard of Himalayan Dog Chews and Benebones. I was wondering what people thought about these two or if they have any other chews to recommend.

My two really enjoy antlers. You can get them in different hardnesses. They aren't real aggressive chewers, so we settled on split chews that are pretty hard. The current ones have lasted several months. I buy them online.
We have given yeti both benebones and Himalayan dog chews. We also give yeti bully sticks which we ordered from bestbullystick.com. I love all 3 so far.
Yeti loves to chew but isn't always a "destructive" chewer. He loved the benebone when we first gave it to him! Chewed it for a long time the first time, but hasn't been as obsessed with it since. Don't get me wrong he LOVES it, it's his bone of choice, but he won't sit a chew on it for hours and hours (not that we would let him).
Bully sticks have always been something we give him in reward. Our first one lasted us around a month because we only let him chew on it for about 10-15 minutes at a time.
We just recently gave him a Himalayan chew for the first time and he also loved it. It smells very strong but it's a little price to pay for having something that will grab his attention for awhile.
The nice thing about the bully sticks and the Himalayan chews for yeti is, he would chew them for an endless amount of time if we let him. They must just taste so so good to him haha.

The only reason we don't give him the chews and bully sticks for a long period of time is because we've battled with an upset tummy with yeti for a couple months now and we don't want to let him chew on them for too long incase the do upset his stomach a bit. I'm sure you could get away with letting your puppy chew them for much longer. All in all I would recommend both the benebone (bacon flavor) and Himalayan dog chews 100% and also a bully stick too! Just make sure your somewhere close by to supervise!

This is a picture of the benebone that we've had for probably close to 2 months. Like I said yeti loves to chew but for some reason isn't terribly destructive. We are growing our big boy teeth though so that might change soon!

We tried Himalayan chews, and I wasn't terribly impressed. Winnie liked them, but I really had to monitor because I know she would have tried to swallow it once it got shorter. So, I usually ended up throwing out a good last chunk of it- wasted $$. I've never tried Benebones.

Both of mine also like antlers- they last a really long time. I had trouble with one brand (Barkworthies) splintering, but really like the Rocky Mountain brand (I get that at onlynaturalpet.com). I have read about some dogs breaking a tooth on antlers. But, for us they have been a really good thing. We also get beef tracheas from that website. They are a really good of natural glucosamine and chondroitin, but they don't last very long.

I REALLY like bully sticks- the thick ones. Don't bother with the little ones- get the thick ones! They can be stinky, but are available in "low odor."  When Winnie was your pup's age, it was the only thing that kept her occupied for a while. :-)  Now that my dogs are a little older (but still puppy-like), I keep a stock supply of them to bring out when we have company, so that the dogs leave guests alone. The only downside to them is that they can cause a little looser stool in one of my dogs. Bestbullysticks.com is the place to buy them.

we did Himalayan Dog Chews. but always encouraged him to spit out pieces as he got them off.  We did go thru them quickly, so those were only special treats. (ie. I really wanted to watch tv!) lol  never allowed to chew them unsupervised.

elk antlers are our mainstay. when we first gave them to him, we supervised. again, to see what size pieces he chewed off. This is a toy we feel comfortable leaving with him unsupervised now. (he is 3 years old)

Ironically, I just recently purchased Himalayan chews for a special treat, and now he won't chew them. He cries and carries it around until he finds a place to lay it. I don't know what that is about...

you are smart to find something....or they will find something. lol

I also really liked the Himalayan chews at first. Nice healthy treat. But Yogi would end up throwing up some of it. Never tried Maci on them cause I was afraid they would choke
Please beware of the Himalayan dog chews. We gave our 1 year old Eli one last week for the first time per recommendations and he broke a back molar. He had to have surgery yesterday to extract the remainder of the tooth due to the root being exposed. It was a bad break. He is a heavy chewer and we had exhausted all other chews from Kong and other rubber type toys, bully sticks, antlers, etc. We were so happy because he really seemed to enjoy the Himalayan chew and then the broken tooth. Heartbroken he will be 1 on Monday the 22nd and already lost a permanent tooth. Our vet whom we have used for years doesn't recommend the chews at all just FYI.

oh so sorry to hear this! what a horrible experience.

may he have a speedy recovery!!
