I am a very excited soon to be Doodle mom. Getting everything ready for my baby to come home in 6 weeks. I have most of what I need including a bunch of new toys.....my question is do I need to wash and sanitize all the toys? I have already taken all tags and loose strings off. (my DH thinks I'm crazy..lol)

I am not sure what you are "supposed" to do, but I can tell you I did not wash Sawyer's toys. You are smart to clip the tags.. I learned that one the hard way! :-)

Congrats! You will also soon know that dogs are dogs.. haha their toys will smell and be yucky in general. I handwash/machine wash them when they become really gross, but honestly they will be gross in 2 secs again :)

As long as you're using new toys, and not someone's hand-me-downs, you shouldn't have to sanitize them.
I didn't wash them either but yes, clip the tags.. I throw them in the washer/dryer about once a week as they get pretty smelly. So far they hold up well and the squeakers still work! Good luck and can't wait to see pictures!

I tend to over think things.....I called my vet yesterday just to see if there were any cases of parvo in our area any they said there were many.....then went to a pet store to pick up some things that were on sale....right there on the floor was a big puddle, I told a worker and they threw down a paper towel pushed it with their foot picked it up that was it...then saw someone playing with their dog with a toy throwing it on the floor...just makes me think.... think I will be washing them

(I did sanitize my shoes....like my DH says...crazy  lol)

Probably the safest thing, didn't think about the fact that another dog might have played with them. I've had no problems washing them so better safe than sorry!

If I had seen that I may have been washing my doods' toys before using them, too! They survived my ignorance, fortunately :)

I always "de-tag" the new toys...Enzo seems to have a fetish for the tags.  I rarely buy toys from Petco or like places...always on line, since they are much cheaper that way.  Have never washed one yet...

I didn't wash toys.  It never occurred to me or I might have.  My dogs have all survived so far :-}
