Griffin is about 11 weeks old and has no idea how to get along with the two older dogs he's met so far.  They mark the ground - he doesn't notice.  One showed him multiple times she was boss and he still nagged at her. The other was clearly scared of him, growled at him (no teeth showing) and he tried to play with that one too!  Is this normal for his age or is he just born to be totally socially inept?

He is just a baby. Of course he does not know the doggie etiquette. Find a puppy socialization class (basically a playtime for puppies the same age) and sign him up. It's best for puppies to learn from their own counterparts.

I can't wait to do that!  Just have to finish his shots first :-/  So at least you're telling me he's normal - whew! :-)

Sometimes you can find puppy romp sessions that don't require your pup to have all it's vaccinations. The one close to us took pups at 10 weeks old. It was super great for both Oscar and Lucy in learning to play with other pups (and to learn puppy etiquette!).

Try a very vigorous play session with griffin before he socializes with the older dogs. That way he is all tuckered out. He has a very long time before he isn't climbing, chewing, biting, chasing, jumping, chomping, barking, play growling with other things its how puppies interact. The exercising before will greatly reduce but not eliminate it.

Judith,

My vet in Lexington, VA has free puppy socialiazation classes the first Saturday of each month.  I am going this Saturday and the vet is the Animal Clinic of Rockbridge:  http://animalclinicofrockbridge.weebly.com/behaviortraining-classes...

I included a link and also below is some info copied from their website.

Don't forget about our free puppy socialization classes the first Saturday of every month where many of these topics will be introduced.

Thanks for the link!  I can't go this Saturday :-( but will you let me know how it goes?  How many puppies, how long "in class" and how long just "free play"?

I echo what others have said.  Puppy socialization classes asap.  Most places just require age appropriate vaccinations.  Figaro has been going to them starting at 10 weeks and he loves them.  I love them because they knock him out.
