Would this be something to use in place of fish oil or in addition to. OR is it just hype!!!!

Most of this sounds like hokum to me. Coconut oil is highly saturated and not healthful for people so I would be loathe to give it to my dogs. Fish oil, and/or evening primrose oil is much better I think. Also, if something "cure" everything, like apple cider vinegar, it's usually just hype.
I have looked into this before, and there are no documented benefits of coconut oil. It is definitely not at all comparable to fish oil; fish oil contains Omega 3 fatty acids and has been well-studied for its benefits. Coconut oil contains high levels of saturated fats and may be harmful in large amounts.

Here's a link to a previous discussion about the supposed benefits of coconut oil:

I agree with F, when you see these "miracle" cure-all claims for anything, be suspicious. And certainly do not consider substituting this stuff for fish oil or other oils known to be high in EFAs.

Yup...one of those too good to be truers!!!!

I was secretly hoping it would be a good thing. I love the smell!!

Thanks

There's certainly no reason you can't use lotions, shampoos, & other coconut oil products on your skin and hair, if you like the scent. I just wouldn't give it to my dog, or ingest much of it myself.
Coconut MILK is actually good for you!
