Hi all,
I notice that on days that Casper hasn't eaten very much, that the next morning he throws up that yellow liquid...does anyone know what it is or why this happens? I used to refer to it as bile, but I don't believe that it is - I don't believe it's serious, I think it's kind of normal?
Thanks for your help!

Yep, it is bile. Just like people do when there is nothing in your tummy to throw up :(
Is it just that it irritates his stomach & that's why they throw it up?
I think it's real acidic. That would make me throw it up! I would not be concerned if it happens on occasion and the dog otherwise does not act ill.
Tara had this problem a lot when she was younger. Her doctor explained that she had a nervous stomach and it was causing excess stomach acid(bile, etc) to build up overnight (when it was empty) and it was very irritating to her stomach. Hence she would up chuck the yellow stuff in the morning. With her the frequency really varied depending on how stressful her day was the day before. It seemed to help some (but not totally) to give her a protein (helps absorb acids) snack before bed. It sounds like something similar is happening with Casper since you notice it more on the days he has not eaten as much.
My standard poodle suffered from this most of his 12 yr old life. Although, he would wake me up about 3-4 am throwing up!
I was able to get it under control by going to more frequent feedings ( 3-4 times a day), more carrots as snacks instead of purchased dog biscuits and it competely stopped when I switched to cooking food for him! My doodle's love the rice/chicken/veggies mixture I cook.
I also would give a small snack of plain yogurt to them right before they went to bed at night, and that stopped the throwing up too. Hope that helps!
Totally normal. Why don't you try giving Casper a bedtime treat as others suggested? Something to settle his tummy for the night. I notice Peri will throw up bile in the morning if she ate her dinner early (before 6pm) and didn't have any treats later on.....
Thank you all so much...A BEDTIME SNACK IT IS!!!!!
Casper sends hugs & kisses : )
Yeah, it's bile. Beckett had the same thing a yr or so ago. We started giving him a little snack at bedtime and he hasn't thrown up since.
Very normal. Two or three times Jamaica would throw-up ~what I had been told was bile~ on our morning walk. I just started feeding her before our walk, and we haven't had an incident since.
This is interesting. Lucca doesn't get it but our golden ret. does. It seems that it happens to him if he doesn't eat breakfast by 8am. The acids must build up. I think we'll try the yogurt snack before bed.
Dito. It does not happen to my girl each day...few times a week. She will give up her breakfast. Bile usually happens later in the day.
