Belle is just over 6 months and has been on the grain free acana regionals (she's had the lamb and duck, and the beef) and had been doing well with no diarrhea. Lately she has occasionally vomited whole pieces of food many many hours after eating. This happened on 2 isolated occasions. Saturday she vomited 3 times throughout the day and once in the middle of the night ( 2 times whole pieces and 2 times not). I took her to the vet today and they did an X-ray and saw a lot in her stomach when it should've been empty. The vet is not sure if she's having trouble digesting the food or if there is another issue. She is scheduled for a ultrasound and barium test tomorrow. Has anyone had any similar experience? I'm very worried about her.

So sorry to hear this Debbie.  Fingers crossed that they get things figured out tomorrow and things are resolved.  Hugs to you and Belle.

Oh no! I'm so sorry! I have not had a similar experience but I'll be thinking about you guys. Please let us know once you know something. Sending doodle hugs you and belle's way!
I don't this is from the food but that it is another issue. Let the vet work it up and then you will with what you are dealing. Good luck.

I had a similar experience with Oscar when he'd eaten 2 men's dress socks. We didn't know at the time he'd even gotten hold of the socks, so were stumped on why he was throwing up small amounts of kibble throughout the day. I thought he just had a tummy ache. I hope that's not Belle's problem, but its good she's having tests done tomorrow. Good luck.

Thank you. I'll keep you posted as to what I find out from her testing.

This is how Jackdoodle's IBD first showed up, with delayed gastric emptying and his food being regurgitated undigested many, many hours after meals. It was caused by an inflammation of the lining of his GI tract, which had also caused pyloric stenosis.

Depending on what the radiographs show, you might ask your vet to run a GI blood panel to test for cobalamine, folate, and TLI. This can't be run in house, it must be sent out to IDEXX, TAMU, or one of the other labs.

Some of his other symptoms included extremely loud stomach noises after drinking water (borborygmus), lip smacking, and very low stool volume.

How did they get the dress socks out? Belle has not swallowed anything I know of, but there are times I'm not home and other family members are watching her, although no one remembers her swallowing anything. She's grabbed paper towels, but I've gotten them out of her mouth. Regarding IBD, I'm concerned about that. It sounds like a similar experience with the whole pieces of food coming up and decreased transit time. However, Belle doesn't have the belly noises and lip smacking. Her stool volume has seemed pretty consistent since I got her. I will ask the vet about running the GI panel. Thank you so much for their responses!

Hoping for good news from the vet!  Keeping fingers crossed!

I was kind of thinking it sounded like maybe she had eaten something too. Our doodles! Ultrasounds are amazing, they usually show you returning and they can (mostly) give you a diagnosis pretty quick. The way it worked with my vet was that he had a specialist perform the ultrasound but he was there. He called me with his diagnosis and then the specialist confirmed. Good luck today, we are sending the very best thoughts your way!

I am really curious about this. Picco has on occasion vomited up whole food, but mostly after playing soon after eating. But a couple of times, several hours later.

I hope it goes well and just a food issue.

Yes, more so the first few years than now, but he still vomits whole food on occasions.
He has maintained a very good weight.
If all your tests come back negative than you may want to consider a few simple changes first. What work for us was leaving his bowl down at all times. Spud does best with small simple meals than just a lot of food twice a day.
He also has problems with treats. We make a simple bite size treat for him.

When Spud was young- so many years ago I posted this same question.
Suggested to me was an enzyme added to the food to aid digestion.

We never added the enzyme but changed food. BTW- we are on Acana and that was the best we have found with this problem.
But... Just this weekend I scrubbed up spots on the carpet for this issue.
Spud is a very slow eater. He lies down and enjoys his meal
It has been so helpful with everyone's responses, I'm so grateful for this group! This morning they did a second X-ray and whatever had been in her stomach has moved through and is almost out of her system. So they are watching her today and feeding her plain chicken and watching for vomiting. If she vomits they will proceed with the tests. It could've been something she ate passing through of what the doctor called slow transit. I should know more tonight, hopefully.
