So I switched Hadley to adult Six Fish a couple weeks back.  She did NOT like it at all.  She skipped many meals over it.  Anyhow,  I ordered the Orijen Redlands which she thankfully likes.  Now I have the majority of a 28b bag of Six Fish that she wont eat on its own, sooo...I would like to know if I can mix that in, even if just 1 to 3 parts or so, to her daily food so I don't have to waste it.  $97 is a steep loss.  Don't know how that would interfere with proper daily amounts of specific nutrients, etc.

Thanks for helping!

I'm assuming you mean Regional Red, not Redlands, lol.

All of the Orijen formulas are nutritionally complete, and very similar in their nutrient profiles, so there isn't any problem mixing them.

However, you really never want to have more open food than your dog is going to eat in a month, unless you can freeze it. I don't know how much Hadley eats, but I'm pretty sure it's going to take more than a month to go through two 28 bags of food.

JD always eats better when his food is fresher, so as much as I'd like to save some money, I buy 10 lb bags that last 2 weeks, even though a bigger bag is available and comes out to less per lb.

It would be a good rule of thumb in the future to buy the smallest size bag when introducing a new food and wait til you know that it agrees with the dog before buying the large bags. I understand that it's less expensive per lb to buy in bulk, but if you have to throw away $97, it's more expensive, not less.

If adding the 6 Fish to the Regional Red causes her to be less enthusiastic about her meals, I'd just take the hit, throw the bag away and chalk it up to experience.

Perfect...

I DO freeze all her food.  I have 4 children that keep me insanely busy therefore, I have 2 refrigerators AND one near commercial size freezer that I threaten to throw my 6'4" husband in if he gets out of line...(insert cynical laugh).

I called Chewy's and they were great.  I told them she didn't like the Six Fish and that I had bought the Regional Red from them.   I asked them what their policy is for such a happening. They looked up my order and happily gave me a full refund for the Six Fish and told me I should either donate it OR perhaps look for ways for my dog to eat it.  An absolute win win!  If she doesn't like it...no worries...some other pup will get to enjoy it.

Hadley has happily eaten it dry and right away each serving I have given her.  She rarely did that with her prior Orijen puppy formula...so I'm thrilled she's enjoying it.  I'll see how the mixing goes without pressure.

Thanks Karen!

Hahaha I'm just laughing about your comment about throwing your husband in the freezer!

Chewy is great.

As long as you're getting a refund, I wouldn't push the 6 Fish. It would be a shame if it spoiled her enjoyment of the Regional Red or turned her against it since she likes it so much now.

Your local shelter would probably appreciate the donation.
