Can people suggest natural treats that have worked for their dogs who have issues with looser stools.

Now that I have accepted the fact that Molly is just a "looser stool" kind of gal (off and on), and she's 9 months, we're going to start trying things other than kibble and cheerios. What have you had success with that has not caused more stomach problems? She desperately needs higher value treats but we're worried about causing more problems. Any suggestions will be very helpful. thanks in advance.

Guinness has IBS and Murphy also has a GI disease, so they are both on special diets.  Guinness is actually on home cooking, and I have to be very careful what Murph eats.  Treats have been an issue for us as well.  Nina (from DK) makes and sells homemade dog treats.  They have not caused any issues with my guys and all the ingredients are listed on the bag.  The best part is that they LOVE them. You might give these a try.  Here's Nina's website.  I hope it works out as well for you as it has for me.

When i was in puppy school they suggested cooked chicken torn into small pieces for easy dispensing. Or, deli turkey breast ripped up.  And, cheese especially mutzarella and american.  Mine love it.

Also, the smeller the better the treat.  It was suggested to make it better to put garlic on it.  Hope that helps.

Laura,

I use bananas, apples, raspberries, strawberries, blueberries, carrots, peas, chickpeas, and cooked chicken with my guys.  They love them all.  The dogs veterinarian suggested these treats. They also gave me a list of treats like a I listed above, and when I find it, I will let you know what the rest of them are.  I generally use the cooked chicken when we go to dog training.

Freeze-dried liver treats would be good. They're nothing but liver, very small, easy to transport, and are unlikely to contribute to loose stools. They're fairly pricey, though.

We use Natural Balance Limited Ingredients treats for Maizey. We are currently using the Sweet Potato/Fish ones and she loves them. They are grain free.
Izzy got diarrhea on the liver treats. We use the Zukes or Pure Bites Freeze Dried Chicken Breast http://www.purebites.com/. The good thing also is that they are made in the good ole USofA!!!!

If I am doing training or just feel like being an extra special mommy, I give Jack frozen tripe. I get it from the health food store for dogs. I use beef tripe and it is in small bite size pieces that he loves. They are really pricey but he is so little that it last's a lot longer then usual.

I also will give Jack cooked chicken broken into bite size pieces, salmon cut up, and I hate to admit this but I give him cheese. He just adores cheese.  He does not like the healthy brand treats, he smells them and walks away. He is the pickiest eater. I get embarrassed when his trainer goes to give him a treat and he smells it and walks away!!! LOL

My chihuahua has a very sensitive stomach and he loves apples, pears and carrots.

I've hesitated giving any input on this subject, mainly because my suggestions have to do with dog chews, rather than treats, per se. Lucy had/has a problem with looser stools too, and she's 15 months old. One thing that helped is reducing bully sticks, so if you happen to give Molly those, you may want to reduce/eliminate them. Another thing that made a marked improvement was giving dried sweet potato chews (Sam's Yams brand). I also give 1/2" slice of cooked sweet potato, mashed up with her dry food every meal (as well as some canned, but that's not really relevant here).

There is only 1 treat Lucy will accept (other than real meat, of course), and that's Trader Joe's Organic Chicken and Brown Rice sticks (they're soft). We've tried Zukes and every other kind of good treat on her and she just drops it on the ground. TJ's Organic treats don't upset her tummy in the least.
