Lisa - I'm curious about the spots are her lip. Where they little growths? I'm asking because Hudson has 1 on his lip but my vet said they are viral worts that are common in puppies - I've never seen them prior to this puppy. She told me that it will go away on its own - but if it hasn't by the time he has his operation, they will take it off. Just curious if your Vet has given you further info on what the spots were?

Hi Karen. I have Hudson going to the doggie resort the first week of November. But I have a lady that takes dogs into her house to care for them. As a matter of fact, I took Hudson to meet her on the weekend. She is someone I used when I had my last dog and even when he had health issues at the end, I was always relaxed leaving him with her. She is amazing - a dog whisperer. I am actually going to start taking Hudson to her 2 x per week for doggy day care and play with other dogs. She sends you emails when you are away and posts pictures of how the dogs are doing so you can see how they are if you want. I know she will allow Hudson to sleep in her room (or on the bed as I do) if he wants to - she's amazing. Good luck with the surgery.

Oh - my heart goes out to Lexie - I know they heal very quickly and it is us that feel more of the pain but I still feel for them. The only other time I had the pain patch administered was to Buford and he was already almost 5 years old. But I think the pain patch helps to keep them a little "drugged" - so maybe that is a good thing.

As a question, 4 months seems young. I think all my females were done closer to 5 or 5.5 months old - before their first heat cycle. Is this something your vet recommended?

Soleil is doing great. She is scheduled for her spaying November 13 so she will be a little over 5 months. She weighed in yesterday at 29 pounds! he thinks she will be 50 in 2 months. How quickly they grow. She gets her first boarding experience this weekend - she goes to the "ranch" Our other dogs loved it so we hope she does too.

I have Hudson's appt set for Dec 11th. I've always spayed or neutered right around the 6 month mark. The only male I didn't neuter at that age was my last dog, my Bouvier and that was because I was showing him so he had to remain whole. I ended up neutering him at about 4 years old and I don't ever want to have to do that to another dog - ever! I felt so guilty - its much harder on them as they get older so as soon as the testicles are fully dropped in the males it is the best to get them altered. My vet takes them in the night before the operation and puts them on a pain patch; the next day they are operated on and stay overnite again, and then I pick him up the following day. I'll spend the weekend spoiling him rotten (even more than normal!) so that my guilt eases.

Beckett is almost 6 months old. He's a mini.He weights about 22 lbs. He's lost almost all his puppy teeth. He's not biting or chewing as much now. Yeah!! He has an appointment to be neutered on Oct. 16th. Shhh, don't tell him.

Greetings everyone....Soleil is weighing in right now at 22 pounds. She is sleeping much better - we actually get up before she wakes up. She still gets her little puppy spurt in the evening and just goes crazy. At obedience class last week the trainer suggested a shot of Binaca if they start nipping. Also if they continue to bark give them a surprise spray of compressed air. Both seem to work really well.
Our vet said to spay at 6 months also. We have not lost any teeth. Has anyone thought about getting grooming done? Is your dog's color changing? We are mostly cream with this light tan wavy hair down the center of the back.
Soleil continues to be a joy. I hope everyone is having fun.

I have done the spaying research and it is best to wait until the pups are around 6 month old. That is when I will have mine spayed and the doctor wants to do the surgery at 6 month as well.

Comiskey was born 11/21/08...she was spade at 5 months and we had no problems (the vet suggested between 5 and 6 months).....she lost her first tooth at 4 months....and I have included a photo as it was a big celebration at our house!
