I have an actively working therapy dog and the Elementary School where we go may want to have additional dogs visit. I am currently going there one day a week for 2 1/2 hours and the other teachers always stop to ask how they can get Luah to come to their class too. We do the "Tail Waggin Tutors" program with regular ed students in the 2nd grade and then we have just started working with the special needs kids. On our first visit to the special needs classroom the kids spent a lot of time tossing a toy for Luah to catch and then some of them wanted to read to her. I asked my sponsor after we left the class if we had accomplished anything and she said that the one boy, Patrick had refused to read out loud and had never done it until Luah came. He was the first to raise his hand to read to her! Therapy work is so wonderful and it is amazing how kids can relate to a dog.

Hi Julie .... Didn't see your post until now. Don't know how I miss these as I'm on here constantly. Anyway, I live just outside of Cincinnati and am doing some therapy work with both of my girls. We are working with 2 places currently, Vitas Hospice and the Ohio Veteran's Home. I have not attempted to take the Delta Society exam yet but these two organizations do not require it. They have an evaluation of their own and then you are good to go. I'm currently hoping to take the exam sometime this spring.
