Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

Hi everyone,

This is my first official post...so bear with me.  We are adopting the chocolate Goldendoodle you see in my profile from a breeder in NY.  She sent an update today that said the vet gave her clearance to send the puppies home a week earlier than expected (after 7 weeks instead of 8).  So, that leaves us with 9 days to figure out a name for her.  We have lots of ideas but this is more stressful than naming our children (and we have 3 boys!).  The breeder has been asking for 2 weeks so she could help her get used to her name, but that didn't happen.  Do you all have names picked out already?  Should we just wait until we meet her?  How did you decide on the name for your puppy?

Amy I am in the same boat (3 weeks to go), lots of ideas, but nothing firm.  I guess maybe I figure I will know once I meet my puppy.  And it IS stressful.  LOL.  Congrats on your new puppy and hopefully we both figure out names soon :).
Kerri, when do you pick up your pup?
On the 30th, but I am going for my first visit tomorrow (very excited!!!).

how did your visit go??

Visit went great.  The puppies are soooo cute.  We basically pulled the 3 girls out & played with them a little.  One was very interested in exploring everything & mischievous, the other two were a little more reserved, but after a few minutes came out of their shells.  I found out this morning that the person ahead of me decided to postpone taking a puppy from this litter, so I have now been bumped up to 1st pick.  I am now at the 9 day mark too and STILL struggling with names.  LOL...I guess I better figure it out soon,
What about Milo it's my favourite chocolate drink,
Well...In my opinion, you shouldn't feel rushed to name your baby just because the breeder wants you to.  She'll learn her name soon enough.  You could wait until you see her in person so that way a name might just come to you.  (It's funny I'm saying this because I had a list about a year before I ever got Bexter and I picked out my final choice before he was even born!)  I'd have a list in the meantime.  Did you all think of favorite movie/cartoon characters?  Favorite sports teams or colleges or sports in general?  Favorite places or vacation spots, lake names, mountain names...For example, my husband proposed to me on Mt. Baker, so I almost named him Baker.  I love the Reds & Joey Votto so I almost named him Votto.  We love the Colts so I almost named him Dungy (after former coach Tony Dungy)...I'd name her something that means something special to you & your family.  My last dog I named Ruby because she was red & I always said she was a jewel.  You could also go by what your dog looks like.  Since she's chocolate, what about Hershey?  Or Latte?  Or you could go by personality, which of course, you'd have to do later after meeting her.  I don't know if I helped you AT ALL, but I had fun trying anyway!  Have fun and good luck!  Can't wait to hear the name!
Good advice Traci!  BTW, so where does "Bexter" derive it's meaning from???

After having a million names on our list, we had narrowed it down to Buster (from the Toy Story movie...Andy's dog) which we liked alot except hubby.  He didn't like that.  Our next two were Dexter and Baxter (which interestingly don't have any special meanings to them).  We couldn't decide between those, so I just invented Bexter as a mixture of the two.  I figured it might be a little more unique.  (Side Note - Now my husband tends to call him Buster...after saying he didn't like that name...I could kill him!)

I like unique, uncommon names, I found this one and it just seems special. What names are you considering?

* Kamea - sweet darling

Kamea meaning and name origin
Kamea \k(a)-mea\ as a girl's name is pronounced ka-MAY-ah. It is of Hawaiian origin, and the meaning of Kamea is "the one (and only)".

Kamea has 2 variant forms: Cameo and Kameo.

Names that sound like Kamea are Kama, Camia, Cama, Kami and Kammi
Donna, LOVE Ka-MAY-ah!  Maybe for my 2nd female pup!!!   LOL!

can she wait for the 8 wks...I have read this extra wk really helps. I know your family is excited, but check with YOUR vet to see what he/she suggests. You will have this family member for many yrs and just cause the breeder is ready for them to fly the coop is it best for the puppy. She will learn her name in no time.No need to be stressed in this happy puppy time. We have adopted shelter dogs that are older and changed their names..never had a problem. good luck.
