Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum
It's been a heart wrenching summer as I had to make the decision to place my now 30 yr old adult special needs son in an Adult Family Home in order to expand services not available in our area. This means, he doesn't have Taps. Aug. 5 we had our first visit - he had been at placement for just over a month. The AFH was concerned the dog would add to much to his visit. I disagreed and took Taps - as you can see Taps was exactly what my son needed . I hope home weekend visits can start soon as both my son, and Taps are definitely affected by this separation. Staff at the AFH were pleased w/ Taps as was another resident who enjoyed some "puppy" time. This decision for my son is excruciating for me . Taps has also picked up on my pain and seeks to give comfort to my heart too as we miss our Noah ever so much.

Cynthia Whitfield, thank you for sharing. Bless your son Jalen , you and your family. Noah's older brother (SSG Patrick Lee Lybert) was KIA in Afghanistan - he had been dedicated to Noah's future care.. you are blessed to have your other children and supportive family for Jalen.
I understand what you must be going through all too well. My profile picture is a picture of my son Jalen, who is 22 and functions at about a 3-6 year old level, depending on the task/activity/situation. He has severe intellectual disability, moderate autism, symptoms of OCD, and PTSD from attending a special needs classroom where there was too much aggression. He was generally a happy boy, and made an easy target for kids who were much more aggressive. I took him out of school to homeschool him at 11, and has never had him in any school or all-day program since. We socialize him him naturally for the most part, although he does participate in Special Olympics. We are lucky to have good support systems in our area, so Jalen can remain home with us, after which his older siblings have offered to care for him once we are gone. I can't image how much you miss Noah. I am so glad Taps gets to visit. We really have to advocate for our adult children with disabilities!
So sorry you are having a difficult time! This is a lovely photo and I would love to see it in the slideshow if you will tag it - blue16. They look so happy together!
