There is a book/movie the Five People I meet in Heaven.  I wonder if that won't be dogs.

RIP Lexi.  My doodle have 4 dachshund siblings.  It is so interesting to see the difference - not specific from dog to dog, but breed to breed. It sounds like Lexi had an exceptional and long life. I know you will miss her terribly. My thoughts are with you and your family

The hardest thing for an owner to do is know when to say when. Lexi was 18 year old dachshund. She was healthy except lately her teeth were bad and she had recurring bouts of stomach problems. She was still friendly but was showing signs of dementia like walking to the wrong side of the door to get out. She didn't hear or see well anymore and would wander sometimes at night. Lexi had a special snake bark. You could go outside and see the dogs were surrounding a snake. She got bit more than any other dogs probably cause they like to enter holes. So, at 18 we had to say when. Took us few weeks before we quit looking for her, hearing her, or expecting to see her. RIP Lexi. You were a hero for helping save Maggie.
