Stay at home mom of 2 boys, ages 7 & 9. We just got our first family dog, an Australian Labradoodle
What Type of Doodle(s) do you have? What are their names? Tell us about your doodle(s) or any other pets you have!
A 16 week old chocolate Australian Labradoodle, named Hank! He is our only pet and such a love. He of course has some of the typical puppy behaviors, but for the most part he is such a good puppy with a sweet and calm temperament!
Where did you get your doodle(s)?
Breeder
Why did you choose a doodle rather than another breed or mix?
First of all I fell in love with the way they looked, I'm not going to lie....but when I found out there would be little to no shedding and they were allergy friendly we were sold!
What are Your Favorite Things to Do With Your Doodles?
Snuggle!!!!! My boys love to run around with him in the backyard.
Geez Carli - forget that last comment. I see I had replied two weeks ago. I have been so busy, I obviously do not know whether I am coming or going!! Yikes
I love the chocolate doodles. Charlies dad was a white and chocolate parti and his mother a beautiful chocolate. Charlies tail has always had the white streaks it in and after we cut his hair in Dec before we went to AZ, his whole coat then looked lights. However, the roots of his hair on his body, are quite dark.
Is Hank the standard size? Charlie is a medium and I believe pretty well full grown as he is 14 months old and weighs 38 lbs.
Carli- Charlie's tail has always been very light (almost like frosted chocolate). In December we cut his hair back to 1 inch because we were going to Phoenix for 2 months. I think he appreciated it because he was a very happy camper after losing about 4 inches of hair all over! He did appear lighter color, but now that it is about 2 inches all over his body appears darker again. I still brush him every morning, but it does not take more than 15 to 20 minutes. We just got back to Wa state and I am finally getting used to his shorter look. I really like the short look, but will probably let it grow to about 4 and then scissor cut back to two. I am used to the maintenance for a standard poodle, but I had no idea the doodle would require this much grooming too! Charlie is a medium size, 14 months old and weighs 37 lbs. We are head over heals in love with this guy - he the most lovable and mellow dog I have ever owned.
Max was 3 yrs on July 25,2011. Darby his mom weighed about 25 lbs & I think Lucas is about 40 lbs. Max now weighs about 35 lbs. When we got him at 8 wks he weight 10 lbs and at 4 months 20 lbs. Then his weight gain really slowed so at 1 yr he was about 30 lbs. We always laugh and say his weight is between 30 & 35 depending on when he had a haircut!! His coat is so thick but so soft. And he does not shed. Some doodles have severe matting & Max had some matting but never had to be shaved. We seldom brush him and he occassionally get matts in his armpits (legpits:-)).
Max is from Tampa Bay Labradoodles Darby who is now retired but his dad is Lucas. We've been thinking about another ALD and plan to visit Seasprays doodle day sometime next year. Hank is adorable, can't wait to see more pics. I bet your boys love him.
