I have asthma/allergies too not only around dogs, but all animals so when I read about hypoallergenic dogs 20 years ago I found it hard to believe. I first tested PWDs and no problem, but hard to buy as pets, only for show. So I moved to the Standard Poodle next, no allergy issues and the best dog I've ever had (I wasn't allergic to dogs until I was 18). Since then all the doodles have started popping up and I've fallen in love with them! I let all my dogs sleep with me and no problem. They are bed hogs though, small, but three of them. My standard had those long legs that took up half the bed.
