Puppy shedding

We picked up our puppy last night and I am REALLY worried about the hair I am seeing on our clothes already. The primary reason we chose a goldendoodle was so it wouldn't shed and at 7 1/2 weeks we…Continue

Is there a particular reason why you're worried about shedding? Allergies?

Because of my allergy, I thought I'd be safe with a non-shedding breed, and I was mislead to believe that doodles do not shed at the time we got our Willow. Willow does not shed, and the only time we saw increased bunny hops was when Willow was changing to adult coat around 10 months of age. However, I am allergic to Willow (saliva?), and to things she brings in from outside.

It sounds like coat change is another unpredictable factor (along with adult weight, color change, etc.) in the doodles, but I don't think I heard of a shedding puppy coat changing into a non-shedding coat (I've read the opposite, though).

As others will tell you, shedding coat is actually much easier to maintain and groom. Although I don't complain about Willow's non-shedding coat, it is a struggle to brush her and she mats so easily. We just keep her coat really short.

Oh good, at least you were not sold a bill of goods but I understand that Christy's is a highly rated Breeder..

Is yours an F1b or first generation? Our Daisy never dropped a hair, she is an F1b, I think those are more likely not to shed.

Again, good luck, I hope it is just nervous shedding or something. Maybe post a discussion on the front page, others will be more likely to see the question than just on Christy's Goldendoodles.

Hi Terra, just read your submission about shedding. First if you are seeing hair on your clothes than yes your doodle probably is shedding. Second, just because you were getting a Goldendoodle does not mean it wouldn't shed. Some doodles will shed some won't. I hope yours is one that doesn't but it doesn't look that way.

Good Luck!

Hi Terra...Remember me?  Megan Casey's mom!!!  We have our Gracie Doodle who is an F1 Standard Golden Doodle and she is now 5 years old.  We love her to death.  She is the best ever.  Christy is a great breeder and you really don't need to look any further.  We have recommended quite a number of people to her and they all love their Doodles.  Christy knows us so tell her hi from John, Nancie and Gracie Doodle.  Hope you get one.  They are great pets...the best ever!

PS  I saw you on the Singing Bee last year...ha ha
