What Type of Doodle(s) do you have? What are their names? Tell us about your doodle(s) or any other pets you have!
I have a chocolate labradoodle named Charlie.
Where did you get your doodle(s)?
Breeder
Why did you choose a doodle rather than another breed or mix?
I love the way the doodles look, I like the traits of labs and poodles so the combination is perfect and of course I love that they don't shed or have minimal shedding.
Hi Valerie. Yes, Sydney is the same way. She is back on the meds right now because as you said she gets better and about a week after the meds stop she's back to real pancake runny poops and even can have some blood in them. Kristi did get back to me via email but basically she said they can pick it up anywhere and did not take responsibility for their chronic problem. I may have to take her to the vet this time because maybe my Metrozolidole isn't the right meds anymore. Let me know what your vet prescribes for Charlie. It's a bugger isn't it? My other dog Luah never seems to get it which is surprising... I am in Florida right now on vacation for a week and my son is watching the dogs for me. He started Sydney on her meds a few days ago due to terrible poops. Email Kristi and let her know... I think eventually it may sink in that she has a problem. Take care!
I would definitely let Kristi know. You can mention that I am having chronic problems with Sydney as well. Sydney has started exhibiting symptoms again... it will be the 4th time I have treated her! I have the metronidazole here that I ordered online and I just started her on it again last night. What is your vet giving you? If it is Panacur I would question that because it is not supposed to work well on giardia but the vets still insist on giving it. Also a fecal can test negative with giardia. You have to have them test specifically for it with a more complex test... I can't remember what its called. This is ridiculous and Kristi needs to know we are not happy. Not only is it expensive but it is very disruptive to maintaining the puppy and your home while it is going on. Trying to pick up these pancake batter poops is ridiculous and washing and bathing everything after treatment is a pain in the ass. Good luck and let me know what Kristi says...
So sorry to hear that. Even though our breeder Kristi was helpful when I called her she was pretty low key about the giardia problem. She claims most dogs carry it but its ridiculous that we have to put up with this with her puppies. It is very hard to get rid of. I would go to this site: http://www.beaglesunlimited.com/beaglehealth_giardiasis.htm
It gives good info but more importantly it gives you a link to another site where you can buy Metronidazole ALOT cheaper than your vet will sell it to you. I keep it on hand just in case I get flare ups again. Once you are done with the meds make sure you bathe Charlie and wash all of his bedding and toys. Its a pain in the ass and if I were you I would call Kristi and let her know. She needs to be aware that her customers are having this problem so maybe she will medicate her own kennel. Good luck!
Hi! Sydney is doing much better, in fact she has the "best poops" in the house now lol! I finished her giardia meds 2 days ago and she is still on the clavamox for a potential UTI. I guess the problem originated with the giardia which made her stomach funky so she ate dirt to soothe it. The dirt then made her vomit which put her in the vet clinic for hydration... one big vicious circle. Now I just have to work on correcting her for eating dirt and we're really working on the "leave it" command to get her to quit eating dirt and come inside. So far so good. I'm not looking forward to the snow melting because we'll have a lot more dirt out there. Hope all is well with you guys!
