Ruby is Ned's sister and I haven't seen her for a while. Her owner told me that she mats also. Ned mats quite a bit - but his coat is still changing to the adult coat. His fur is unbelievably thick, yet cottony soft too and his mats pretty much comb out as I brush/comb now. We brush him on the average about every third day or so. I try to brush then comb as much of him as I can get done. My husband holds him and watches TV while I brush. Ned "goes to sleep" while I brush, but if he wasn't held, he would be gone! We usually spend about an hour. The coat upkeep really varies with the different doodle coats. Ned is pretty high maintenance - if we kept him about 3/4 - 1" long it would be a breeze. I have some pictures of him at that length and he is also cute - I just like longer.
Some doodles shed and mat, shed and don't mat, don't mat or shed. The F1 doodles are the least reliable as to coat.
