Owen has a hot spot! He's 11 weeks old. He has been scratching some so I put some peppermint oil on my hands and rubbed it over him hoping to chase the fleas away. I don't want to use a chemical agent anymore. DoodleKisses has me rethinking all my dog parenting! I feed Kona and Owen Orijen grain-free dog food. I won't use chemicals on them. Anyway, it clearly didn't do the trick so now he has a hot spot. We had a golden who was allergic to fleas so we've dealt with lots of hot spots over the years. I had a baby onesie at the house so I put Polysporin on the wound and put the onesie (folded up to his chest) on him to cover the wound. He is pretty cute, but still miserable. I went to Whole Foods this morning and found a "natural" flea squeeze-on product. I put it on both dogs. Hoping this will ease the itching and the ointment will heal the wound. sigh. Poor little guy. They smell wonderful with this flea product. Hope it actually helps. Not sure where the fleas came from since Kona had been treated monthly. It's always flea time in CA.

I'm continually grateful for DoodleKisses. Thanks everyone for your questions and answers that entertain and inform.

Bonnie, I would call the vet first thing in the morning and get some for him, I keep two bottles of the stuff on hand at all times. Today Oliver stated licking his paw, ugh, that was a nightmare before for us, I quickly used the stuff, and he has stopped licking again...And they always do things on the weekends or right before, never fails....Hugs to both of you...Yes Fleas and tics are a problem here, tics because of the palm trees, so I have my property sprayed, front and back, for fleas and tics, and even with that, we still have a problem at times. I have been using the confortis for fleas and a tic collar for tics, seems to do the trick, but I am forever checking for those disgusting creatures.

Cheryl, We used that for our Golden Retriever and you're right, miracle med. Unfortunately Owen developed his hot spot on Friday afternoon, of course. We had some tea tree oil/aloe vera spray but it stings him! Thank you for the suggestion. We lived in Hawaii for three years in the 80's. The fleas were horrible there. I imagine you deal with a similar situation in FL.

We have had a problem with hot spots on and off, and I now use this powder called neo-predel, I got it from the vet and I call it the miracle cure for hot spots...Just put this powder on and in 2 days the hot spot is gone...I know this sounds nuts, but it really does work on my goldendoodle and my austailian shepherd...I feel sometimes that the sporins, neo, poli, etc. just keep the area too wet...Just my opininon of course...I do feel for you, we are in Florida and it is a common problem here for some dogs.....I would just ask the vet if the preodel can be used for such a young puppy...I believe it can...Hope Owen is better soon....
