Buster the Beagle came to stay with us for a couple of days. Boy, he’s annoying!!! And not a real dog either, if you ask me. He refused to swim and play balls like the rest of us. Mom took us all to the beach, and he just stood there and whined the entire time. I tried chasing him into the water and managed to get his feet wet, but he just stuck his tail between his legs and ran away. And here’s the worst: every morning around sunrise (which is very early – I prefer not to get out of bed until after 8), Buster would start to howl. I mean, not just a polite short bark, or a discreet whine, but an ear-splitting, tooting, loooong HOUIIIIIIIIII HOUIIIIIIII that woke up everybody, including moi. Of course the adults had to scramble out of bed and run downstairs to let Buster out to pee. Well, his howling didn’t stop there; he’d spend a really long time sniffing all over the yard, while grunting like a little pig. My Mom thought it was cute, but I personally found it extremely annoying. And then, when he’d located a particularly interesting scent, he’d start to howl again. At 5 am!!! No wonder the neighbors complained! I’m glad I don’t live with Buster every day. Maybe he’s part cat? That would explain the howling and fear of water. I’ll start calling him Buster the Cat from now on.

Cheers from Lilo.

PS! To be fair, Buster did do one decent thing while he was here: he found a rabbit nest that I’d totally missed, and called me out for backup. So I let him play with the babies for a little while, before I had to tell him to bugger off, so I could clean out the nest myself. Of course the adults didn’t appreciate my fine work, but hey, I’m used to that by now!
