Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

Recently while on the trip to the mountains our dogs fell off a cliff. They went down about a hundred feet down a steep incline, rolling part of the way. Suprising they were fine. They got back up and came back up. The next week somehow Jasper got hurt and had to have emergency surgery but the vet said it wasn't the fall.

So now after that Jedi our other doodle starts chewing on his leg. It's bleeding and scabbed and the hair is off. We gauzed/taped it up and put a cone around his head.

Why is he chewing on it? We're going to ake him to the vet but haven't been able to get an appointment (odd.). We were in the mountains in B.C. Could have he had some type of bug attach to him?

PLEASE HELP US! He is my baby and I love him. I need help. Have any of your dogs had this?

Please help me.

Maybe shave the area he is focusing on to see the skin and if there is any imbedded article. maybe try some lanacain creme on the skin. Wrap it so he won't like off the creme once he seems distracted from it remove the bandage and watch and see if and when the chewing returns. Try an ice pack incase it is a stain from the fall. Hold it on 10 to 15 min at a time. If he wants to lick that while your holding it on have a cup of icecubes that you can give him as he heads in for the lick. See if anything like that works.

Thank goodness they were ok after that fall. I agree with the others - I'd push your vet to take a look at him. It's probably nothing to worry about, but it's obviously irritating him, so maybe the vet will know a way to relieve him, whatever the problem is.

Find a vet! He will probably end up okay....I know you are worried though.

Hot spots can cause them to chew and make themselves bleed in one area...or if he did get a bug or insect bite and it's now infected...I would still contact my Vet and if they can't see him...call another or take him to an emergency Vet.

Oh, no! So sorry for the stress you have been through. I would call and leave a message for the vet, if they cannot get him in, I would find another vet!

I too, think it may be a small foreign object. Tell the vet you think he may have an infected injury. That should get you an appointment.

Don't know what it is because with allergies he probably wouldn't be chewing only one place. But I can't think of any kind of bug that would stay on him for a week or two. He could have a foreign body in his leg, glass, a splinter, a burr, etc. Try looking closely with a magnifying glass. Perhaps you could convince the vet's office this needs to be looked at or find another place.
