long time no see, eh?

Nothing new has really been happening, hence the lack of updates.

Today I scheduled his surgery to get neutered, which will happen the first week in March.

Oliver is still very patient with our 7 year old chihuahua (who is the boss) she growls whenever he gets on her nerves and then he very slowly backs away from her...this is hilarious to see btw, a 7lb chihuahua scaring the big dog. lol However, 9 times out of 10 he can entice her to play back with him, whereas when he was really young she didn't have as much interest in him. They play bite and growl at each other, another very funny thing to see since ALL of Chole practically fits in his mouth. His other favorite thing to do with Chloe is paw her- he gently lifts his huge, teddy bear leg and bops her on the head. This is normally what ends playtime for her though :)

Just recently (over the past week) Oliver seems to have conveniently forgotten most of his tricks/commands. It now takes 2 or 3 requests for him to do something simple! He stares back at you like, "I totally know what you're asking me to do. But I'm not in the mood. Deal." lol Sometimes in the middle of a practice session, he'll simply fall to the ground and grumble very dramatically. I guess this is what we get for picking the most laid back puppy in the litter! hehe We don't let him get away with it though and always let him know that "we're the boss" and give him TONS of praise and treats when he does finally do as asked. Hopefully he'll outgrew his rebellious adolescent stage!

He has learned one new trick since I last updated though: he can now bow on command. We're also continually working on his prolonged stay with distractions. He's a very good boy, the best dog ever. We love him so so much and everyday we're amazed at what a good puppy he is. <3

Other than that....he's getting so big! He is 5 months old and now weighs 44lbs. It has finally started snowing the D.C. Metro area and he has been having a BALLLL playing in the snow!!! :) His bark has changed into a "big boy" bark, and a few days ago he howled for the first time-- we were in the middle of a really fun game, but I had to abruptly stop the game to go out. I told him to go to bed, so he walked in his crate, but as I was getting ready I heard the SADDDESSTTT howl in the world. So, I did what I used to do when he was a baby: throw a peanut butter filled Kong in there to keep him occupied. He seemed pretty content after that.

In general, he's really just much more loving than he was when he was a teeny pup. He loved to snuggle and fall asleep on your lap when he was little, but now he actually WANTS to be with you, greet you, give you purposeful kisses, and just generally hang out with you. I've actually never felt so appreciated by a dog before lol.

We love him so, so, sooooo much and are SOOOOOOOOOooo happy he's in our lives! :)

Sounds like you guys are going through the same things as us! Macey will be 5 months next week and is weighing in right around 42 lbs. We should definitely plan to get them together some time. She would love to have a buddy!

Good to read your update. Our puppy is also 5 months, so it is funny there are so many similarities.
Chelsea graduated from puppy class, but is beginning to respond to commands more slowly and sometimes with a sigh!! We had her spayed yesterday, I don't know how we're going to survive with limited activities!!
