My Mother in law has been very ill . . . in the hospital since July 4th! She is finally making huge improvements so NOW I feel like I can share this story!
When I announced that we were getting a dog, 5 years ago, she was not happy. "Your house isn't big enough" "Who is going to take care of it?" "It can't come to MY house", etc. When I said that I was sorry she felt that way about not coming to her house, I also said we would visit for 1 day at Thanksgiving and 1 day at Christmas. Hmmm . . . she said we could come for Thanksgiving and she would give it a try. Well, my Bodi is such a good boy. She warmed up to him quickly (he was 2) and she was impressed with his manners.
Over the years there was a transformation . .. . .she would take him out on a leash to the backyard. I would find Bodi standing next to her chair for a rub down. Ahhhh . . . she loves him!
Fastforward to this summer. She was so ill. Had to be intubated and sedated. When they lightened the sedation she motioned that she wanted to write. At first it was squiggles. Frustrating!! Then one day she could write clearly. What was the first thing she wrote? "How is Bodi?" Didn't ask about the grandkids . . . nope . . .the grand-dog has won her heart!
I'm happy to say she is now talking, eating, walking, etc!!! Thanks for letting me share my story!

What wonderful news! I am so happy to hear your MIL is doing so much better and that Bodi won her heart. I am sure she will be cuddling with that sweet boy of yours soon.
Oh gosh, I love this story. Dogs have a way of getting into our hearts, don't they? I am so glad Bodi worked his magic and glad your mother-in-law is doing better.
A beautiful story Doris and brought tears for me. I am so happy your Mother in Law is doing better and how could Bodi not be a part of that recovery! These Doodles have a way with their love:)
Sheila - she is not that old - 72. She was very healthy and then BOOM - she was soooooo sick. Love my doodle as you all love yours . . .
Sounds like Bodi is already a therapy dog :)
That's a wonderful story and I hope she can give Bodi some rubs in person!
So happy to hear she is doing better. Sounds like Bodi needs to be a therapy dog. Glad that he has brought MIL to the dog loving side!
Thanks, Jane. My in-laws were never around dogs before Bodi.
