Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

With all the recent postings of dogs on craigslist and whatnot, I wanted to share a rescue story....it's not a doodle, but I still thought it might make you all smile.  =)

My husband and I were at a Christmas party last night and met a little dog (lab whippet mix) named Raisin.  lol I can't get over the name.  Raisin was rescued by the party hosts after he was abandoned by a lake near them (Hamilton, NJ area).  He was extremely close to death and spent 2 weeks in the vet and another 2 weeks in a rescue organization because they thought he would not make it, so they didn't want to search for a family for him until they knew he would survive.  Well, little Raisin pulled through and was rescued by the family whose party we attended last night.  When they got him he was housebroken (so clearly Raisin was at one point owned by someone and later abandoned).  They think Raisin was abused because he is (maybe I should say was) terrified of men, but he seems to be warming up to them slowly now, judging from his happy mood at the party last night.

So I just wanted to share the story with all of you....When the owner told me Raisin's story, I immediately thought of DK and all of these dogs who need help and are being "rehomed" or whatever through craigslist.  I wish I took a picture of Raisin but he moved too fast....He was really an awesome dog who now has an awesome family to spend his days with.  =)  And among his many new talents is walking on his hind legs......he made it from the kitchen to dining room on his hind legs in search of food from the buffet table LOL.  He is clearly getting comfortable in his new home.  =)

Love this story and very timely, thank you for sharing.

As far as the Craigslist ads, I feel they are scams by bad breeders for the most part, I wish we could tell the good hearted ones from the evil.

What a nice story and LOVE, LOVE, LOVE the name :)   Its great to hear happy ending story of rescue dogs.  I just can't comprehend that people can acutally just dump their dogs !!!  I am so over protective of my two doodles its boarderline OCD - LOL.

Thanks for sharing this happy tale. My DIL has whippets and they are not outside-in-the-cold dogs, Raisin so very lucky he was found.

I'm so happy to hear this, and you're right....with all the sad "Craig's List" dogs we've been hearing about, a "happy ending" story feels great.
