Bedtime is pretty routine in our household.  Riley goes out at around 11 pm and we all go to bed, he goes to his comfy one on the floor at the end of ours and we all go to sleep.  Usually I am woken around 7.30 with a lick or a tiny whine which means he wants to go out.  Last night was a little different.  At 5.30 am  Riley woke me, so I got up thinking he needed to go out and muttering to myself that I must lift his water earlier in the evening.  I usually follow him and he usually heads straight for the Patio doors but not last night.  He turned the other direction into the lounge where he brought me to his two favorite NON- toys , toilet rolls!  I have been teaching him 'leave it' for a long time and for the past few weeks whenever he has managed to get the toilet rolls from the bathroom when I say 'leave it' he immediately drops them and comes straight to me.  Last night he showed me that he had taken the rolls but had already dropped them.  They were totally intact unlike in the early weeks where the lounge looked like a snow storm within seconds.  So, I lifted the rolls, put them back in the bathroom and we both went back to bed.

Oh and in the morning I told my partner to PLEASE remember to close the bathroom door tight.

Good boy, Riley! But Mommy will be even more impressed if you wait until she wakes up to show her how you didn't destroy the toilet paper!

Ahhhh...what a smart little dog!  He was proud of retrieving the toilet rolls, and wanted you to see what a good job he'd done by not tearing them up.

I would welcome toilet paper.  Monty loves to covet underwear and socks.  And believe me I dont just toss things around. He has taken stuff right out of the clean laundry basket.  It seems that all clothing at all times has to be put up, expecially shoes!

Too funny !!  My Oliver has a obsession with the TP roll too !!!  I just keep it high on the shelf where he can't reach.  But lately I have been getting tired of reaching for it so I put it back on the TP stand and everything was fine..... so.... with that being said.. the other day I was in my bedroom getting dressed for work and I hear this strange sound like something unraveling....... I walk out and I see a stream of TP going from the bathroom thru the hallway, thru the dining room and into the livingroom where Oliver and Sasha were deciding on who gets to eat the end first - LOL  Both looked like deer caught in headlights - I just stood there and laughed.  Ollie was so sneaky doing this he did not even rip the paper ... it was perfectly unrolled - ahhhhh Doodles... can't live without them... they keep life interesting :).

Sandy, I started trying to teach him 'Leave It' weeks ago and it's only in the last two weeks that he's finally 'got it' In the beginning he did it for high value treats and now he just does it for praise.  In fact he picks things up, looks at me and immediately drops whatever is in his mouth LOL  He now has to learn not to pick things up in the first place!  "leave It' for him is actually 'drop it' so I have to find another way of teaching him to not even pick things up.

I think what happened with the Toilet Paper was this.  He sometimes leaves the bedroom in the middle of the night for the cold tiles in the hall and seeing the bathroom door was open couldn't resist and took out the rolls into the lounge where he immediately dropped them.  He then came looking for me to show me that he had been a good boy LOL

Hattie is one smart Dood too to find a way to wake you up.  Riley gets too hot on the bed so he gets lifted up in the morning for a snuggle and has to be lifted down again.    I think these dogs are ultra smart in a very interesting way.

Why do they think they need to wake us up at such horrible times to show us something good?? Surely, it could wait! I love my sleep!

Riley, I think you're a really good boy.....after all you could have had some real fun chewing that toilet paper.

OMD!  Riley, you are the cutest!     Could you please come visit and teach Banjo this trick?     He has us trained to keep the doors closed....but we heat with wood and we're going to have some very COLD bathrooms this winter!

How sad for you, Nicky.  MY precious little pup would NEVER play with toilet paper:
