Our little guy (small 7lb brussel griffon) went for a yearly checkup this past Saturday.
I've been trying to keep from dwelling on the fact that...tomorrow he is scheduled to go back for his dental cleaning.
UGH!! I was just stressing about Molly getting spayed...now I'm worried about little man and his dental cleaning. They said they will do blood work before they put him under and that it shouldn't take too long. They are sending me home with pain meds though, because they said they were going to have to pull some teeth and he would have a little pain :-(
Litte man (Ali) is my baby...honestly. I don't even dare think about the day when he's gone, because...well I couldn't handle it. I'm soooo sad he has to have teeth removed! He already has a horrible underbite, which causes his bottom teeth and tongue to constantly stick out...my first comment to the vet after he told me about the teeth that needed to be pulled was "he already has trouble holding his teeth in!!"...the vet kind of smirked. **sigh** I guess it was a silly comment.

So, if any of you dog loving doodle owners out ther want to send Ali some well wishes...I would appreciate it :-)

However.....that isn't the worst news...we were also told that Ali is blind in his left eye...I can't even write about that right now or I'll cry....
WHY do dogs have to get old?
It's very painful for their humans :-(

Sounds like Ali in good hands with you.    Many of us humans loose a tooth from time to time even with good dental care.

I had a blind dog for many years.  Write me if you ever want support.   Dogs really do remarkable adjusting to blindness.  Better than humans most vets told me.  Hope all is well with you today

Thanks for all of the well wishes everyone!!! Ali just left for surgery :-( I'll keep everyone updated. Ughhhh my heart is so heavy with worry.

Oh and I couldn't edit my original blog but what I said to the vet was that he already had a hard time keeping his TONGUE in, lol, not teeth.

Anne- your comment made me feel better, it would be AWESOME if Ali acted younger from this dental! The vet did say his gums were bad off and probably causing him pain, so if this makes him feel better and act younger, I'm happy!!!!

Thanks again for the sweet words everyone!!!!

I hope Ali came through his teeth-cleaning/extraction like a trooper.  As far as his blindness goes, I grew up with a dog that went blind and other than stepping into the small pond occasionally he did great.

I feel for you  Lindsey, it's so hard to see them get older. Myla also has a major underbite, so far it hasn't been a problem. She just had her first dental cleaning and she's 3. It's good that they will do the bloodwork, they found a problem with my 12 year old cat and we decided not to get his teeth cleaned. Prayers and good luck wishes to you-update us!!

Good luck with Ali. Dogs do get old far too fast.

I am sorry little Ali is going through all of this stuff. It is so very hard to watch them get old. Enjoy your time together.
