Tonight as my daughter played with her partner in crime, Riley, she looked up at me so sweet as could be and said "Why is Riley's hair coming out?" So we sat down and talked about why Riley's hair was coming out. I explained that Riley was getting older and that is part of the reason why she doesn't always have the energy to play like she used to. So she says "well that's ok because she's just my Riley Girl and my best friend" and then she said to Riley "I will help you girl, we'll make that hair go away" and she started to gently pull the hanging chunks of Riley's loose hair. It literally brought me to tears. It was such an innocent thing. She was being a problem solver. She was helping to get the loose hair off but what I saw was something far deeper. These two have been inseparable for the past 3 years. Their bond is unbreakable. Riley has been her heart and soul and her protector and now that Riley is aging, Silverlyn is protecting her. True love.
This picture isn't the greatest but it's the only one I could capture in the moment.

Awww....I love this story. Your daughter sounds like she is a wonderful, caring little girl.
so very sweet!
Sweet story. Children can see so clearly sometimes, like your daughter with Riley. Best friends help--she knows that.
THis is so wonderful. I hope my daughter has a relationship like this with my two. Beautiful!
This is so sweet and I love that you captured the moment in the photo!
I agree with Karen--Star, you have given your daughter priceless gifts: empathy and compassion. Thanks for sharing this story!
You have given your daughter the gift of compassion and love for animals, Star, and that's a gift that lasts a lifetime. Thank you for sharing Silverlyn and Riley's special bond with us.
