After 6 painful shots, I learned my lesson!

We had a beautiful weather today!!

Late this morning, I stopped at the park to eat my apple in the beautiful weather before heading to work. (By myself, without Charlie.) There, it was this little Scottish Terrier, well groomed with collar and tags were running at large. I thought he must got away from the owner, and the owner would be soon running after to catch him. I called it to come to me, and it did. So, I foolishly reached down to him, thinking I am going to be a good samaritan, until his owner got there. Before I knew it, he bit me.....I know I must have scared him more than anything. But he bit me like he was a big cujo.... My right hand swelled up and blood was running down my hand!!! OMG. I can't believe what just happed to me.... I never ever got bit by a dog.......

Well, the Scootish Terrier took off, and there were no one coming after him.... people at the park asked if I was OK, and stuff. But I wrapped my hand with napkin and quickly left the park. I uess I was in shock.

I thought I will continue to go see my client, but first stop at the near by hospital's emergency room since two of the laceration was pretty big and kind of deep, I thought I would need some stitches. Well, the doctor said that they do not put stitches on the dog bite, because of the bacteria in the dogs mouth can be bad if they get stitched shut in the wound. OK...that's fine. But then they said since I don't know anything about this dog, they would have to give me rabie shot!! OK, I will deal with that, too..... But, guess what? They gave me a tetanus shot, and 5 rabie shots!!! One on both arms, one on both tighs, and one in the biggest laceration..... Total of 6 shots!!! This was more traumatic to me than the dog bite itself...:-( I will still have to go back 3 more times to get 3 day shot, 7 day shot and 14 day shot, too!!!

After this ordeal, I learned my lesson..... Don't assume every dogs are friendly, even when they look well kept.

You know, I should have known better, out of all people.....

How awful! What a hard way to learn a lesson.

Oh no...so sorry this happened! It is definitely a good lesson for all of us. There has been quite a few times I have intervened when I've seen a dog walking down the street. Luckily, I've never had an incident like this and have been able to "reconnect" three dogs with their owners over the years. You just never know how a dog may react, especially if scared.

Wow, you must have been scared to death. This is a great lesson for me (and everyone) about approaching a strange dog regardless of size. I feel so bad that you had to have all those shots. I'm a HUGE baby when it comes to getting any shot....I can't even imagine SIX. I'm so sorry!

That dog fooled me, because #1 it was little, #2, it never growled or show teeth!! It just came to me and started to bite..... I know if I had Charlie with me I would did the total opposit, since she is not fond of starnge dogs.....

Wow, I always thought you had a certain timeframe to produce the dog prior to having to take these shots. Like you called the local Dog Shelter and the Dog Warden was dispatched to see if they could locate the dog! These sound awful! I will certainly take a lesson from this as well!

I've actually looked into those pole dog catcher thingies because so many strays walk down my street each year.

I am so sorry this happened to you Kyoko! I would have done the same..... I found these two little dogs running down the street one day and I had both my dogs in the car. Don't know what I was thinking, but I actually did catch one of them an he was super nice and I put him in my front seat with my two in the back. I chased the little toy poodle down the street in my car and cornered him in a bush. I put my flashers on and went to get him, but he growled and showed his teeth at me! I found a nearby stick and lifted his tags to get the number on them and it ended up being a rescue that he was adopted from. They asked me to bring them in, but I said I couldn't because I didn't want to get bit! They met me and took the dogs away, but boy I learned my lesson too that day! I have considered carrying a crate with me just because what if I didn't catch these two that day????? I don't know if I could have slept that night.
I hope your hand feels better soon, and it is good advice regarding how it can be dangerous to get close to or call a stray/unknown dog to you.

Yikes! How freaky. I have to say that I am slightly 'afraid' of ANY dog that is running loose. I just do NOT trust dogs I don't know. I have never been bitten but got close once when trying to look at the tags of a boxer mix running at large. Boy did it spook me when she snapped! Glad you're okay, but that rabies shot series sounds pretty brutal!

OMD!! That is scary! We have a tiny little cute terrier in our OB class and out of nowhere today he got away from his dad and ran up to this huge dog walking by and just started to attack!! Thankfully the bigger dog was easy going and nothing horrible happened, but WOW, little dogs can have a big bite!! Sorry for all you pain, sometimes good deeds don't go "unpunished":)
