Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum
We are getting a doodle to foster from Doodle Rescue Collective, Inc. She is a year older than Holly and has come from a home with smaller dogs and a larger dog. Although Holly adores the Maltese, I am sure that Holly will be happy to have a girl her own size to play with.
Here is the picture we were sent of this poor girl. She looks like she needs some TLC!

I picked up Cocoa and she is an absolutely darling dog. She is a bit shy but, seems to be adjusting quite well. She does need some serious grooming. Right now, Cocoa looks like an Irish Water Spaniel on a bad-hair-day.
Grooming is something easily taken care of. Cocoa and Holly met and the girls are getting on just fine. Holly is a bit bigger than Cocoa. I was surprised that Cocoa is not underweight. In fact, if anything she is a bit overweight.
Her weight will be taken care of with a proper diet and some exercise. She needs some leash training but, that will also come after she is a bit more adjusted and confident of her surroundings.
I haven't introduced her to the Maltese yet, but she and Holly met the new gardener who is petrified of dogs in general and these two big dogs specifically. I always feel sorry for folks who are afraid of dogs because they miss out on so much love. Funny, Cocoa is frightened of the gardener. Holly is ambivalent towards him.
Cocoa has a new collar because he collar she came with was just too darn tight. I think that everything is working just fine. More updates come later...
I leave for Orange County shortly in order to pick up Cocoa from Kelly's home, who has graciously picked her up from Ridgecrest, CA. I have been telling Holly to expect a new doodle friend shortly but, every time I use the work "friend" she thinks that I am talking about Shadow, our daughter's Labrador whom Holly loves.
Plans are to shoot a couple of entry shots of Cocoa to establish a baseline and then get her spruced up. We have a rescue groomer who does an excellent job on Holly and is expecting Cocoa early next week. We want to start by evening off her coat so that her legs don't look so bare. I expect we will also need to bulk her up. We have a great home for dogs to exercise, a fenced in acre...
I spoke with Kelly last night making plans to pick up Cocoa from her and she says that Cocoa is an absolutely sweet darling.
We had a very successful event at the Cardiff by the Sea, Dog Days of Summer yesterday and have scheduled four dogs to go to "furever" homes. We took two spaces at the event and introduced our new canopy with our name and logo on it...
Cardiff by the Sea dedicated several entire streets to "Dog days of Summer" and they had the San Diego Sheriff's there to supervise the towing of cars at 7-AM. Believe it or not, one of the deputies put in an application to adopt one of our Maltese before we even opened for business. Judy does a home visit to his house today along with another home visit. One of our volunteers is doing the other two home visits.
What a difference a year makes. Last year, Judy and I were the only two staffing a single space at Dog Days of Summer and had 3-dogs. Today, we had 2-spaces, 5-volunteers and 10-dogs (4-of whom got adopted). We have a monthly rescue event at the Unleashed store in Poway, CA and we have a space scheduled for "Woofstock" a big, September dog event in Escondido! We will also try to recruit fosters for Doodle Rescue work at these events. We will have a poster that says, "Ask us about doodles!"
We will start introducing Cocoa to the world as soon as she is spruced up and gets over the shock of moving. I will be posting her progress on this blog...
Poor girl. She will blossom under your love and care.
the Crowes are the best. Thanks for coming to the rescue. I can't wait to hear more!
I believe she got to The Crowe's this evening! Judy and Richard have the biggest hearts!! Thanks just seem to be such an overused word but from the bottom of every doodles heart THANK YOU both!!!!!
Oh wow...she does need some TLC. I just know that the next post you make after Judy has worked her magic, this girl will be beautiful. She needs to fill in those Doodle legs with some soft hair!! ha ha Again...you and Judy are amazing people!
This just breaks my heart. I'm glad to know that you and Judy and Holly will be giving her the care she needs.
Thank you so much, Richard for fostering this girl. I can't imagine how sad she must be to be dumped at age seven. I can't wait to see a picture of her once you and Judy have done your magic.
I'm so glad she is coming to you for some TLC and Holly therapy :)
