We rescued Angelina from a Los Angeles shelter on Valentine's Day. She had been wandering the streets as a stray! Usually, our rescue Maltese have to be just about clipped down to the skin because they are such bad shape. However, although Angelina was dirty and somewhat matted; Judy managed to save her coat. This was a nice Valentine gift for us and an even better one for this darling little girl.

Congratulations, Richard.
Fantastic! You do such wonderful work with these babies!
So many happy endings~ rather beginnings. I love the situation for the life partners. HA. Perfect. How could it not be perfect.
This sounds wonderful for all the dogs. Thank you for helping so many sweet dogs.
We have four dogs going to furever homes on Saturday. Mozart and Dolly are going to a family in Newport Beach. Jupiter and Maggie Mae (maltipoos) are also going together to a furever home. Jupiter has an outgoing personality while Maggie is terrifid of men. She had been abused by a man or a boy in the past and was returned to the shelter three times because she couldn't get used to being around a man. She has been with us for over two months and still barks at me (although not as much as in the past).
However, we found a wonderful solution. She is going to a home with two female life partners and her best buddy Jupiter is going with her. This is a win-win situation because we don't expect the prospective adopters to have men in their life.
I am sure that within a year or so, I could get around Maggie's fears. I did it with Melody who was kept in a puppy mill crate for seven and a half years. It has taken me close to two years to socialize Melody into normalcy. However, we don't think it would be fair to place Melody now! This is the only home she has ever known and the only place she has ever received love. The same would be true for Maggie if we had her for a long time...
Wow Richard...busy times for you right now!!! Great work you are doing. I think you are wise to not let Marney to those two little girls. You saw enough I'm sure to make the right decision. Geez, even the parents were not very responsive to their girls actions. I think little Marney would be miserable with them. IMHO...
Hope things worked out with Jupiter and Maggie Mae! Good Luck
Well, the family that visited us to meet Marney loved her but, we did not like them. Marney was scared of the two girls and they kept grabbing at her and running after her. We tried to instruct them how to act around a dog that is a little bit recitant but, they would stop for a minute or two and then start pestering Marney again. The parents did nothing to restrict the girls behavior.
The parents said that their previous dog who died of cancer had bitten one of the girls. I told them "I can fully understand how that might have happened!" However, they didn't get the message I intended to convey. We are very-very choosy about the homes for our rescue dogs. We want them to have happy and comfortable lives. We have a several other people interested in Marney and we don't have to place her quickly like shelters need to.
We received the two darling 2-year old Maltese boy and girl from the family that is losing their home. They are little, cute and I am sure we will find them a new furever home very quickly. The only stipulation is that they have to go as a pair because they are bonded together. It is exceptionally seldom that we get pretty, small and young Maltese rescues who have no physical or emotonal problems.
Holly just loves them and, of course, they are not afraid of our big girl. She is a wonderful foster mom! I will post a picture of Holly and her two new little friends soon...
Good news.
Well, the two ladies just loved Jupiter and Magie Mae. Maggie warmed up to them quite well and Jupiter was Jupiter's nomal loving self.
The family is coming to visit us today and to meet Marney. I have a hunch that they will love her. then it will be home instection time and Marney will have a furever home of her own. We have had Marney for several months now as she had skin problems which have been cured. We love all our foster dogs but, really get close to the ones that are with us for extended periods....
By your standards that will be an almost empty nest : )
