Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum
We got a phone call from the Barstow, California Humane Society saying that they had a 3.5 pound Maltese that was scheduled to be put down unless a rescue group came to pull him from the shelter. We put a hold on the "Maltese" and I took the 160-mile trip from my home to Barstow.
The 3.5 pound Maltese turned out to be close to twelve pounds and certainly did not look like any Maltese I had ever seen. I asked about the weight and was told that they didn't know how the weight was stated to be 3.5 pounds. I looked at the intake paper of the dog and he was turned over by a family as a Poodle - Llassa Apso cross. I asked the attendant how a Llassa Apso - Poodle cross could turn into a Maltese. I was told that despite the surrendering family stating he was the Llassa Apso - Poodle cross, the "experts" determined that he was a Maltese.
I smiled at them and asked if their "experts" could change my Honda CRV into a Ferarri. Somehow, they didn't understand what I meant...
What this guy really is was a darn lucky non-Maltese. He is a sweet dog, looked up and kissed me when they handed him to me. There is no way I could turn this guy back to be euthanized. Anyway, he appears house trained, gets along just great with all the Crowe dogs, both Maltese and Doodles and he knows his basic commands.
We will find the guy a home after a trip to the vet for neutering. As the cute guy was sleeping in my lap tonight while I watched the Michigan - Notre Dame football game, I thought to myself, "That was really worth the trip!"
