Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

So DH and I were getting ready for work this morning, just chatting away with Taquito and Peri (seriously talking to them) and he asks me "Are we crazy? Do you think we talk to our dogs too much? Do other people do this?". I just laughed and said I am sure other people do and he agreed.

But really, how often do you talk to your dogs? Are we over the top because we don't have human children yet? Will this all change?

A typical morning convo with Lady Peri & Tacky goes like this:

Me: Morning Lady Peri - are you excited to go outside today?

Peri: yawwwn....stretch.....sigh.....

Me: Oh Taquito it's a hard life for you - you're just a little guy in a big world - ready to go outside?

Tacky: comes out from under the covers, yawns and grins...

Me: You're the best dogs in the whole world.

DH: Yes you are - we ruv you! Let's go outside choodle...

Peri and Tacky: run to front door together full of smiles.

Seriously, this happens more often than it doesn't. I can't believe I am admitting it! Then again I guess no one is "normal" - at least we love our dogs and are good "parents". Hehe.

LOL you are normal for this group of people at least :) I talk to my two all the time, and so does my husband. I sing to them, and make up tons of funny nicknames for them. At Rally class the other night I called Kona my "monkey child" as we were running the course, my trainer (also a friend) asked what I called her????

I truly think they do undertstand our meaning and attitude when whem we speak to them and mine know the meanings to an awful lot of english too :) I would not admit any of this to most people, not even some of my training friends. Some people will never understand our relationships with our dogs, and I really truly do not care. These two silly dogs mean the world to me and my husband. Who, by the way, never wanted to get a second dog, now she is HIS girl.

You are normal. How nice to wake up happy every morning and have great dogs to communicate with. When the children come, they are products of their environment and I believe your children WILL talk with your dogs also. :)

Many times I just talk to them because, after all, they really seem to be listening. Listening more intently than any other communication I have all day with those I work with.
