I have lovingly dubbed Toby my "bad boyfriend"- you know the one- everyone tells you don't fall in love, he's trouble, he's a mess..... But you still go there. We will soon be coming upon our six month anniversary of having Toby who soon will be eight months. In that short time we have battled through crate training, potty training, teething, wet dog, muddy paws, throw up, hole digging, flower eating, jumping on guests, I phones in the mouth, nipping, the groomer, the vet, the Christmas tree and the cone of shame! Despite all that, I love him. Is he a lot of work? Yes. Probably more than I expected, as I never raised a dog before, but when I see how much fun and love he brings, it makes me dig deep for that patience that I thought I only had had reserved for my son. He makes us all work a little harder every day but he also makes us laugh and smile every day. I can't really think of anything else that can do that other than children, which is why I see how so many people love them like children. And like any good " bad boyfriend" , he is hell on wheels ( or should I say paws) and a heck of a lot of fun.

I had a bad boyfriend once, a golden retriever. Jumped on everyone, ate 75 feet of siding off my house, etc. I was the only one that loved that dog. I tried every training idea, spent thousands on training and medical care but he was who he was, a big goofball. I miss him.
