Most of you know of my struggles with Bella and poop. She started eating hers from the day she came at 10 weeks old. We tried Everything possible to stop it. She's got "leave it" down like a champ. Problem is I have to be out there to catch her. We got a house with a huge back yard to be able to let them out and have fun playing and frolicking, not for me to stand out there on guard.
We thought staying on top of all the poop disposal would solve the problem, but then we noticed she is not only eating hers, she started eating Murphy's, while its still warm! So we have to be really on top of getting out there to catch it. I know, really gross. The only thing that keeps me sane through this is Knowing my dogs poops are healthy and free of too many germs.
Except today she has totally crossed the line......as I was watering plants out front and letting them romp around, she found ANOTHER dogs poop in the yard, and decided to roll, and roll and flop and rub herself all over in it. OMG! The smell! And of course I had just given her a bath Friday. Thank goodness I also shaved her down really close so with hose in hand she got a quick shower. This is new and beyond disgusting to me.
I don't know how much more poop I can take. I really think I should just rehome her to a farmer and let her just have a heyday with all kinds of manure, cuz obviously she loves poop more than keeping me from loosing my mind!
Kidding of course, but does anyone feel my pain out there? I post this in total jest as in light of all that's happened in our country this past week, and with some of our own dear members health, I am truely appreciative that this is the biggest problem in my life right now.

Oops, I forgot to add that I would only take Sadie out on a leash to do her business so I could lead her away from the prize. I still am doing that, but am feeling more confident about letting her off leash in the yard. I ended up leashing her becasue she began to t think that running around the yard with poop in her mouth was a game. Oh boy!!

Yes, Sadie had a liking for poop as well as my other dog when he was a pup. I read i one dog book that poop to a dog is like eating a salad. Well, I didn't quite agree! I bought a big box of vinyl gloves from Walmart and started picking up poop right after Sadie did her business. She is now 7 1/2 mo and has lost interest in it. Thankfully. It should get better as she gets older. I do feel your pain.

Archie eats the cats poop from the litter box. Very gross.

OMG... Did I write this?? This post could easily be about Goldie. I'm so exhausted trying to keep up with her poop fettish and sick of wasting money on things that don't work. I'm convinced that its incurable. Goldie also started eating my other dogs poop and pretty much any poop she can get to. She also taught my other dog to do it so now I have 2 poop eaters on my hands. Ugh!!!
When will it end??? If they are supposed to grow out of it then how does a 10 yr old dog grow out of this newly learned behavior? Training and deterrents have both proven completely ineffective.
I gotta admit, it does make me feel slightly better knowing its not just me!

I do believe I have heard that command before Joanne, but it was totally unrelated to dog training ;)

Is there a command named, " Eat S*** and Die" ?

I'm so sorry...what do you do when she eats it?  I have my first puppy ever and so trying to figure out the "scolding" thing...Ours keeps getting into anything muddy.

I am sorry for what you are going through.  It is very hard always having to be vigelent about making sure your dog does not do that.  I suffered through the same thing for many years (yes, I said years...) with a dog I adopted through a rescue.  We are visiting my mom and just now I caught my own doodle carrying out a nugget from the kitttylitter box...yuck!  Some dogs just seem to like poop!

Thanks Laurie, I'm not giving up. Maybe the e collar will be my next trick. We really have to get her over this nasty habit. It just isn't healthy. And it stinks!
