First Full Day
Boca was super feisty in the morning...apparently she thinks my PJ's are lacking in puppy paw prints.

Not ONE accident since her arrival (KNOCK ON WOOD...please don't let my bragging jinx me). But that's because so far she's been always completely confined in the house: crated or in ex-pen near our kitchen, or tethered to a couch. She's done great with it and only occasionally whines/cries (like when I wanted to take a nap and she was in her crate and lonely). She was only 'free' for a short time and during that time she was being cuddled and kept near. Although Clark told me when I got home from work that during one brief moment when he thought a certain door was closed she sped off into the house and he found her in Natalie's room :-D

She's eating WELL....loves food and treats.

She tried to inhale one of Natalie's stray socks but I saw her do it (thanks to being tethered and right in front of me) and was able to retrieve it from her just in the nick of time.

She's tolerating being brushed (thought she may rarely need it). And I introduced the nail dremel to her...as a new interesting object to sniff that predicts treats.

She already sits nicely thanks to foster mom, Staci...but unlike with previous dogs I am in no hurry to teach her 'commands' other than repeating her potty words when she's going outside. I mainly want to accomplish house-breaking, prevent bad habits from forming, get her used to handling/grooming, teach her to calmly accept confinement and help her feel at home for now. The time will come soon when formal obedience training will start but I'd rather start that CLOSER to when she's in that defiant teenage 6+ months so she has no choice but to be non-defiant.

Rosco is doing okay with this new attention grabber. He just really is dying of curiosity and lust. Curious about what SHE has in HER crate/ex-pen that HE doesn't. Lustful after those things. And the only real 'problem' is he can't live with another dog without wanting to hump that dog. Oh my! He can barely contain himself...especially in the evenings. We are NOT allowing it (poor girl is 1/4 of his size!) but that doesn't stop him from trying. Other than that he's cool with her.

OK time for photos:

Oh and as to the brushing...she doesn't seem to have a coat that matts is what I meant. Like Thule she probably won't require brushing to keep tangle-free...she's pretty scruffy and not curly.

@ Nancy: Boca is much smaller than him. But I don't know what the more comparable Thule was since we got her once she was pretty much full grown. Rosco weighed 30 lbs at 12 weeks and Boca was 20 lbs at 13-14 weeks...so I'm expecting her to be 2/3rds his weight once she's her full size.

What a great beginning. How does Boca compare to Rosco at this age - size, coat, temperament? I noticed that you said she wouldn't need to be brushed much. Why? She is such a lovely shiny black.

Love hearing these updates! Boca sounds like she is adjusting well. You have every right to brag about her no-accident streak. It's amazing. Poor Rosco, can't hump, and can't have Boca's toys. Life is hard for a doodle. :-) ha ha.
