Bone Breath

My dogs do love marrow bones.  They follow me back and forth from the car when I'm unloading the groceries with hope in their eyes.  They stand by the chest freezer in the basement, whenever i open it up, just hoping for their favorite treat.  Finally I bow under their collective stares and hand out bones.  Oh how I hate bone breath.  Everyone settles down to a good bone chewing session.  It is funny to watch them swap back and forth, always thinking someone else has a better bone then theirs. If weather permits, I throw the bones out in the yard.  It has to be fairly cold or the ants will take over the bones. It is comical to watch the dogs give up their bones and sadly stare as the the ants take over.  At that point I have to spray the bones with the hose and bring them back in the house.  Yuk, bone breath.

Riley has been carting one huge one around the house for the past two days.  I keep putting it in his crate and he goes and carries it back depositing it on the couch!  I came home from work and he gave me his usual Doodle Kiss and guess what...yes big bone breath!!!   I two bones from my butcher ever week, boil them up and he loves them so much and they are so safe that the smell is worth it.

Lucky dogs!  Marrow bones are the best.  Bone breath is the worst.
